- Thank you to Miss Trish Mruz who sponsored and created personalized Christmas stockings for the students in our Academic Support class. She filled them with great little gifts! I am very grateful for her help this year and for the example she sets of kindness and generosity. -George Sowpel
A big thank you to Angelina Chilaka and Albert Raneo (90 year old Mr. Harwich) for visiting the Creative Writing II: Global Outlook class to teach the kids about Cape Verdean culture and the life of Cape Verdeans in Harwich during the first half of the 20th century. Students wrote "Found" poems using words and phrases from Ms. Chilaka and Mr. Raneo. -Lisa Forte-Doyle

- Shark Shout Out to Monomoy 2020 graduate, Paul Reece for visiting the Creative Writing II: Global Outlook class to talk about Korean culture, education, music, food, military and political situations, social life, and more! The kids were really engaged and asked lots of questions! Good luck to Paul as he heads back to South Korea soon to serve in the U.S. Air Force! -Lisa Forte-Doyle

Class of 2023's Bake Sale
On Friday, December 10th at the Chatham Holiday Stroll, the Class of 2023 hosted a bake sale in front of the Wild Goose Tavern. Thank you to everyone who brought in baked goods and thanks to people who showed up to help run the table! Aside is a picture of the Vice President of the class, Christie Beckley, and the Treasurer of the class, Olivia Willis. There is also a picture of the other students who decided to show up! Also, a huge thank you to the Wild Goose Tavern for letting us use their front pathway! The sale was very successful, and a great way to end the holiday season. Happy Holidays from the Class of 2023!

Key Club helps out at 'Elf' movie event at CES
On Saturday, December 11th, the MRHS Key Club helped out with an event hosted by the Chatham Elementary School! There were children aged preschool through fourth grade. They all gathered at the Chatham Orpheum Theater to watch the movie, Elf. Key Club members dressed up in festive colors and helped guide the kids, watch them, and interact with them BEFORE, DURING, and AFTER the movie!! Thank you so much to the members who showed up and to everyone who made this fun day possible! Happy Holidays from the Key Club!
Key Club helps out with the 'Homeless for the Holidays' event
On Saturday, December 4th, the MRHS Key Club helped out with the Homeless for the Holidays event at Brooks Park. Members showed up to help organize the food that was donated. Special shout-out to Forrester Belanger and Julian Belanger for creating the food organization system! Also thank you to Ashley Anderson, Juliana Ritchie, Samantha Goode (Vice President) Christie Beckley (President), Abrielle Long, and others for showing up! A picture from the event is below.

More Creative Writing and Sandscript News...
The creative writing club, Sandscript, hosted a wonderful open mic night last Friday the 10th in our school cafeteria. So many wonderful performers entertained us with poetry, narratives, songs, instrumentals, and even dance!! Big thank you to the following talented students: Emily Celia, Ayah Wilson, Erin DeSouza, Edrian Wright, Via Ferer, Charlotte Mahoney, Michelle Generazzo, Eddie Crownshaw, Kristina Tamasco, and Monomoy athlete, Paul McLardy. We even heard great writing written by Kaelyn Mayo and Ben, a MRMS 7th grader!! We raised $265 for Sandscript!!
Students in both the CWII class and Sandscript, created our annual holiday houses about which they had to write a story. The houses and stories are on display downstairs in front of the library. Here are some photos from our house building day:

Class of 2022 Popcorn Fundraiser: One Week Left!
Seniors are selling popcorn through Poppin Popcorn again from December 1st through the 21st! Support the class of 2022!

Book Drive
Won't you please consider donating a book with diverse characters to the Creative Writing II book drive in support of the MLK Education Task Force? The Task Force is supplementing the 3rd grade classrooms in CES and HES with new books that show the many shades, cultures, ethnicities of Cape Cod. We are collecting until December 22!

Want your voice heard? Monomoy Youth Voices Showcase is BACK
January 13th 2:15 - 3:15 on Main Street
"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about the things that matter"
The purpose of this showcase is to give MRHS students a safe platform to communicate their stories, messages, opinions, and ideas about topics they care about.
All kinds of work is accepted– including artworks, posters, class projects/presentations, videos, writing, spoken word, monologs, musical compositions and more.
If your work has a message, WE WANT IT HERE!
You can either post and/or perform their work at the showcase.
The first 30 minutes will be a gallery walk/reception and the final 30 minutes will be dedicated to students who wish to perform and/or recite their work.

Food Festival
Today, the students of the Diversity Club and the History of Culinary got together during Jawsome to celebrate the holidays. Students originally from Brazil, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, and China created some culinary delights to share with the student body. Beautiful posters were made by the History of Culinary students. Fellow students enjoyed the delicious food. Fun was had by all! Thanks to everyone. -Mimi van der Burg

Grade 9 - Naviance
Guidance visited grade 9 history classes this week to discuss tips for student success, register students on our Naviance program, and administer a personality assessment on Naviance. Ask your child to share their results!
PSAT
On December 16, students who took the PSAT were invited to a presentation on how to interpret and improve their scores. One step is connecting Kahn Academy to the College Board account and practicing. Reading is also another great strategy to improve knowledge! Students can access their scores through their College Board accounts.

Winter Sports Summaries: Week of 12/13
CHEER
The cheer team is doing great! This season we have a huge team which we are hoping to take to competitions this year. This week along with last we cheered both basketball games. We are also beginning to practice more elite stunts that we will use at our competitions this year! The team has bonded extremely well and we are super excited for an amazing winter season! BOYS BASKETBALL
This week for basketball was a very good week, Practices were really good and everyone was working hard. On Wednesday we had a big game against DY and we pulled out a big team victory in overtime. Everyone put in maximum effort and it paid off. We are 2-0 and have a game away in Falmouth on Tuesday.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Girl’s basketball is off to a good start. We started off the week with a strong win over SJP on Monday, leaving us 2-0. Later in the week we had a tough loss against DY despite a great effort. The team is excited to keep working hard over winter break in order to have a successful season. (Melissa Velasquez, Junior Captain)
