Klein High School, December 2017 Edition
The Principal's Message
Dear Klein High Parents and Students,
On behalf of the KHS Administration and Faculty, I would like to wish you and your family a warm and happy holiday season! It has been an eventful semester, and I am ever-thankful for getting to serve the staff, students, and community of Klein High School. From the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts to playing in the snow last week, this semester we have certainly “weathered the storm.”
The Bearkats have adopted our Klein5 core values: empathy, gratitude, integrity, perseverance, and service. I continue to be amazed at how our students, staff, and community have embraced and embody these core values. As we move forward with our focus on character education, I know that our community will reap the rewards of these productive citizens.
Furthermore, I am even more excited to see the great things that have been going on in our classrooms! Our teachers and instructional leaders have been working tirelessly to reimagine learning, and we are grateful for their efforts to personalize learning for all of our students. I am continuously amazed at all of the accomplishments and accolades that our Bearkats have achieved. From clutch wins both academic and extracurricular to generous donation campaigns, our Kats have made us proud, and we look forward to all they will continue to accomplish in the coming semester.
Please take this upcoming break to rest, relax, and enjoy the people in your life that matter most. Thank you, as always, for your support and guidance as we work with your students to strive to make our vision of promise to purpose a reality for everyone! We truly do believe that together we make the difference!
Go Bearkats!
Regards,
Jessica Haddox, Klein High School Principal

Bearkat Den Update
Bearkat Den is new and improved for our students this year! After conducting student and staff surveys we have made several changes that we hope will yield tremendous results for our students. We have transitioned from having Bearkat Den two times a week to five times a week. Through our Enriching Students software, students are able to have a flexible schedule that meets their needs as a learner. Teachers can quickly and efficiently pull in students any day of the week for intervention or enrichment. We will be placing students in a new “Home Den” in the Spring and hope to continue improving this process every semester.

Khan Academy
It’s INCREDIBLE to report that studying for the SAT for 20 hours on Khan Academy’s free Official SAT Practice is associated with an average score gain of 115 points. That’s nearly double the average score gain compared to students who don’t use the free test prep. More exciting is that more than 16,000 students from the class of 2017 who used Official SAT Practice improved their scores BY MORE THAN 200 POINTS!
Check out this newly released video message below from Sal Khan, founder of the nonprofit Khan Academy. Shorter periods of study time also correlate with meaningful score gains. Six hours of study on Official SAT Practice is associated with an average 90-point increase! With support of their classroom teachers, students can create their own study calendar complete with diagnostic tests, practice exercises, practice tests, and more.

The Addams Family is coming to the neighborhood! Based on the original characters created by Charles Addams, we join the family years later as Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family. She confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before — keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents. Bring your family to meet our family and help us celebrate what it is to be an Addams! We promise it will be anything but normal.
