FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Parents
Next Thursday 15 August we celebrate the Assumption of Mary. As a fitting reward for the life she dedicated so wonderfully to God, Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken up to Heaven, body and soul, when she died. Father will be celebrating mass at 2pm in our school hall and all parents and families are invited to join us.
Sacrament of the Eucharist
Our Year Four children will be receiving the Sacrament of the Eucharist next weekend. Thank you to the Year Four teachers Mrs Holness and Mrs Poggioli for preparing the children so beautifully for this special sacrament in which they receive Jesus for the very first time. Please keep them in your prayers.
Catholic Performing Arts Festival
The Catholic Performing Arts Festival is underway with many children from our school showcasing their talents. One Big Voice is getting closer and closer with PCPS students participating once again this year in Australia’s largest choir!
Big thankyou to Mrs Twine for preparing the children and practising with them for these events.
Edu Dance
Edu dance is well and truly underway this term with the children thoroughly enjoying expressing themselves and unleashing their creativity through the medium of dance. We look forward to the concerts later in the term. Big thanks to Mrs Capriotti for co ordinating this programme.

Fathers Day Breakfast
On Friday the 30th of August our wonderful fathers, grandfathers and people who are special to us in our lives are invited to attend the P&F Father’s Day Breakfast. It will take place in the school hall from 7:30am.

School Backpack Recycling
Do you have a broken PCPS school backpack that is just sitting in the cupboard and not likely to be used again? Please consider donating your broken PCPS backpacks to school reception.
Usable parts from the backpacks will then be combined to make broken bags whole again. The refreshed bags will then be sold through the school’s Buy, Swap & Sell page on Facebook. All funds from sales will go to the P&F.
Thankyou for considering.

CURRICULUM
Early Childhood
"Igniting Curiosity, Empowering Minds"
In Pre-Primary, the students have shown a keen interest in the Olympics and requested an Olympic area in the classroom. Challenge accepted! The Pre-Primary children have participated in their own opening ceremony, obstacle courses, races, and have been watching the Australian medal tally grow.
I wonder if there is a future Olympian among these bright-eyed enthusiasts.

Music
Performing Arts Festival
The Catholic Schools Performing Arts Festival commenced this term, and we have 13 students entered in the piano, guitar, violin, woodwind, brass and voice solo sections.
Coming up in the next few weeks are:
Year 3 Sacred Choir – Wednesday 14th August at St Benedict’s Church – 11.30am
Year 5 General Choir – Monday 19th August at the Vasto Club – 9.30am
Year 6 Drama Group – Wednesday 28th August at the Wellington Room,
Morley Recreation Centre - 11.15am
Tickets are available through the Spirit of the Arts website.
The Year 3 students will be singing two songs that are suitable for a Mass or Liturgy. The song ‘Together As One’ was written by Australian composer Andrew Chinn and he granted permission for it to be translated into Noongar by Sharon Cooke. The Year 3 students were very fortunate to have Sharon come and teach them how to pronounce the Noongar words correctly and they are really looking forward to performing it for everyone.
One Big Voice
Congratulations to the following students who auditioned and have been selected for special roles at One Big Voice. Isla Pearce, Mackenzie Dell’orso and Tayla Lancaster will be introducing the song ‘Starman’, which will be sung by the One Big Voice Studio Choir. Ella Hunt, Milla Chambers and Shristi Kumar will be singing solos and in small vocal groups. Shristi has also been selected to join the Emerging Talent Choir and will be singing the National Anthem at the start of the One Big Voice matinee.
