🐺 Weekly Howl 🐺
Even though it was a short week, it was packed with fun and excitement!
Our 8th graders had an amazing time on their field trip this week! They explored the Cal Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, gaining hands-on experiences that complement their science work. Planning these events take a huge amount of effort and we are so grateful to the staff who works hard to make this event happen. SHOUT OUT too to the families who chaperone - so many of you stepped up to support this trip. You're amazing!
Wednesday evening marked the 74th annual District Music Festival, a grand celebration of music in our district. We are so proud of our talented orchestra students who participated in this event. Their dedication, hard work, and passion for music truly shone through, earning them well-deserved praise. A big thank you to Ms. West and Ms. Rocco for their tremendous leadership.
Thursday afternoon our Peer Helpers presented the Take Down Tobacco event during lunch. They did an excellent job educating their peers about the dangers of tobacco use in a fun and engaging way. We’re proud of their initiative and dedication to fostering a healthier and more informed school environment.
Thursday evening we held our final School Site Council meeting for the 2024-25 school year. We want to give a heartfelt thank you to all the families who have contributed to this group - your support makes a tremendous impact on the activities and resources we can provide to our students and staff. It’s through collaboration and dedication that we continue to create a thriving school community. With this final meeting, we wave goodbye to our 8th grade family representatives, and will be looking for new members next year. If you’re interested in getting involved, please be on the look out for a nomination form early in the 2025-26 school year.

🚗 Parking Lot Safety 🚗
We have noticed a large number of families parking in the staff lot for after school pick up. This creates a safety hazard as students often exit school through the parking lot. While we continue to teach our students about parking lot safety, we ask that all families picking up students please use the loop or find an alternate pick up location off campus to ensure student safety.

🏫 Immigration Resources and Support 🏫
In the San Lorenzo Unified School District, we seek to ensure that every family feels safe, supported, and valued. We recognize that some families may have concerns about immigration-related issues, including potential deportation. Please see the District webpage (SLzUSD Immigration Resources and Support) provide information, resources, and practical tips to help protect your family and stay informed.
Immediate action for our all of our families regardless of status:
Please Update Emergency Contact Information at Schools
It’s important to include a variety of trusted adults who are authorized to pick up your child in case you are unable to. These individuals should:
- Be readily available in case of emergencies.
- Have reliable transportation to and from school.
- Be someone your child knows and with whom they are comfortable.
📣 Campus Reminders 📣
- At Washington Manor, we are committed to promoting healthy eating habits and physical activity for our young wolves. Recently, we have noticed students selling snacks and candies on campus. We would like to remind everyone that selling food items on school grounds is not allowed. Parents and guardians, please take a moment to encourage your child to make healthier snack choices and to remind them that selling food at school is prohibited.
Please remember that Washington Manor hosts cell phone free classes. During class times we ask that students turn off their cell phones, so that they can focus on learning. Please call our main office at 510-317-5501 to get a message to your student.

Attendance Protocols
REPORTING/VERIFYING ABSENCES
Caregivers may excuse absences by calling the Attendance Line: 510-317-5599. Families have 72 hours to clear absences. If an absence is not cleared within 72 hours, the absence will no longer be excused. Only parents/guardians can excuse absences.
ATTENDANCE LINE
When excusing an absence, families should call and leave a message on the Attendance Line: 510-317-5599. When leaving a message please state the student's name or ID #, the reason for the absence, and the name of the parent/guardian calling.
ABSENCE ERRORS
If you receive a call, email, or text about a student's absence that you believe to be in error, please have the student see Ms. Kelly in the Main Office within 72 hours of the recorded absence.
Important Learning to be done!
In our efforts to curb tardies, we continue to enforce the following rules in order to promote an effective learning environment:
- 10/10 Rule: Students will not be allowed out of class in the first and last ten minutes of class. This is to ensure that they are getting set up for success, have the opportunity to write in their planner, and complete warm up activities. The last ten minutes ensure they get the homework and any last minute announcements.
- Teacher Dismisses the Class, Not the Bell: Students are often anxious to get out to break and transition into their new classes. Students need to remain seated until their teacher dismisses them. This will have the added safety benefit of reducing the number of false fire alarms as students have less access to the pull stations.
- Hall Passes: When students leave the classroom, they are required to have a current hall pass that marks the time they left and the location to which they are going.
While these are all procedures WMMS staff are working together to implement, reviewing them with your student will be very helpful. We thank you for your support.
