High Performance Learning School
Introduction by Ms J Hunter
This time last year I was introducing myself as Colton Hill’s Community School’s new Headteacher and was full of excitement for what the 2023/24 academic year would bring. Throughout the year school has been busy with a diverse range of success both in classroom, on the sports pitch and in many other co-curricular activities. This term has been equally busy with rising Year 7 transition days, rising sixth form transition days and new to our calendar the Year 10 sixth form experience day.
With new beginnings ahead of us all in September, it has been great to see some very talented Year 7 students taking a lead on our school performance of Bugsy Malone this week. With partner primary schools invited to see the first show and participate as curtain raisers, this year’s show has shown the impact that the performing arts department has on character building within Colton Hills and with our wider community. We can’t wait to see what this cast will achieve next summer! I believe there will be an arts event in the autumn term so do look out for tickets on Eventbrite next term.
Our Combined Cadet Force have also experienced learning opportunities beyond the classroom with their annual summer camp with many tales of what they have learnt and many calendared events for 2024/25 are already being planned. We have had great interest again for our new intake and we look forward to seeing them in their new CCF uniform in September. As I write this we are on a daily check of the field after torrential summer weather in the hope that Sports Day will take place this week. The last week of this academic year is nearly here, yet it will be packed with events such as Celebration Evening, Rewards Day and our 50th Celebration evening to mark us serving the community since 1974.
We wish our leavers well, hope you all have a restful summer holiday and we are all looking forward to what the 2024/25 year will bring. If this year is anything to go by 2024/25 will be full of wonderful learning opportunities for our school community.
Sports Day Highlights
It has been a very productive Sports Day morning and the rain held off! Students are all buzzing and excited to be showcasing their athletic talents, representing their respective houses - Curie, Kahlo, Tull and Turing. Who will lift the trophy at the end of the day?
Bugsy Malone was a success!
Dance Champion
Congratulations to Angelina and her team mates who have been crowned champions in the Global Dance Open trio category. Well done to the girls, their hard work has paid off!
CCF Army Camp 2024
This year’s CCF Summer Camp was held at the Warcop Training Camp in Cumbria from 2nd to 6th July. Cadets were split into two groups (one and two stars), based on their experience in skills such as map-reading, cooking in the fields, paint ball and laser tag games as well as battle tactics and drills. Throughout the week, they enjoyed themselves whilst learning new skills in team building, confidence building and making new friends. It was a very positive and memorable experience for the twenty-one cadets who attended this camp.
Art taster session for primary school
On Tuesday 9 July, our art department delivered a clay taster workshop to our visitors from Lanesfield Primary. They had a go at various clay modelling techniques including creating some intricate patterns. We hope they enjoyed the session!

Newest member to Wolverhampton's Youth Advisory Board
Congrats to Simran in Yr 12, who has been accepted onto to the Youth Advisory Board! The quote by James Baldwin " "Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced" inspired her to be a voice of reason & change for our generation of youths. Simran said: "I hope to make an impactful, positive difference against youth violence & to bring out the best in people." The Youth Advisory board was set up to get young adults involved in decision making, generating new ideas to prevent violence.
We wish her all the best in her new role!
Sporting success for sisters
Congratulations to sisters, Aisha and Vienos, who have both been selected to represent the West Midlands at English Schools Athletics. Aisha is currently ranked 8th in the country in her age group for the shot put. Vienos is currently ranked 21st on the country for her age group for the hammer throw. Besides sports, the sisters are also very accomplished musicians. We are very pleased for them as this is a massive achievement in the sporting arena and we wish them both the best of luck.
Year 6 Induction
We recently hosted our two induction days for the Year 6 students who will be joining us in September. They had very busy and productive days, getting to know their new friends, teachers and learning their way around the school. We also want to thank the families who turned up on the second day for our induction talk and uniform sales. We are looking forward to welcoming the new Year 7s in September.
