Dear MacArthur Families,

This week our third-grade students performed a special Veterans Day music program, and I am so proud of them. A special thank you to Ms. Santaguida for working with our students on their special performance. Our third-grade students helped honor and recognize that our Veterans help make our world a better place with their courage, sacrifice, and dedication to our country. I was so moved by the PowerPoint presentation Ms. Santaguida put together honoring Veteran's related to our students. Reed and Tyler Popiolek's great grandfather was in General MacArthur's regime and shared a photograph, wow! It was also so touching to see some of our fifth-grade students play instruments at the program to support our third graders. It is so exciting to see our students find a love in music.

Picture Retake Day will be on Friday, November 17th. There are a few things you should know, if you plan on having your child's picture taken.

Parents/guardians whose child was absent.

• Parents/guardians should send their child to school ready to be photographed.
• Parents/guardians who have previously placed an order do not need to place a new order.
• Parents/guardians who have not ordered can place an order using the Retake Event Order Code, 80447TT at https://inter-state.com/Order.

Parents who are unhappy with the original picture.

Parents/guardians who placed an order should send the Picture Package, including the envelope, to school on Retake Day. The entire package will need to be returned to the photographer so they have the information they need to replace the original picture with the retake. Our photographers need the Original Picture Packages to produce the Retake Picture Package.

• Customers who only ordered Digital Download Products should still have a Picture Package envelope with a Photo Statement to return.

Four 3rd grade classrooms welcomed Mrs. Pash from the Lake County Soil & Water Conservation District to do a special science lesson that ties into what they have been learning in class about the plant and animal life cycles. Through the “Edible Soil” lesson, the students learned about the layers of the soil, how soil is made, and how bugs are essential, all the while enjoying eating a little “soil” that they helped to create at the conclusion of the lesson.

Yearbook orders can be place until March 1st. They will be distributed at the end of April 2024.

Each month kindergarteners who master their letters earn a letter shirt. We are very proud of all of them! Way to go!! October's letter shirts go to....

If you would like to earn a little extra money but still be home in the morning, nights, weekends, and holiday breaks, please consider working in our cafeterias and kitchens. It’s a very rewarding experience and you will be connected to our schools.

As our district-wide capital improvement projects continue, MacArthur Elementary will temporarily serve only cold lunches. Our food services team remains committed to providing healthy meals that meet all requirements of the federal school lunch guidelines. We will keep you updated on the progress of our new kitchen and the timeline for returning to the traditional lunch menu. Thanks for your understanding as we build new opportunities to better serve our students.
