5 ESSENTIALS SURVEY
Parents and Guardians,
This is a friendly reminder to complete the 5 Essentials Survey using the link that was emailed last week. Your feedback is incredibly important and helps us continue to improve the learning experience for our students at Tremont Middle School. If you haven’t had a chance to take the survey yet, we would greatly appreciate your time in doing so.
IAR & ISA TESTING
Our students will take federally required assessments in the spring. These assessments help us understand how our students are growing academically compared to their peers across the state. One assessment is called the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). At Tremont Middle School, fifth through eighth-grade students will take 3 Math and 3 ELA Tests after Spring Break. If a student is absent during a test, he/she will be required to make up the test.
Fifth and eighth grade students are also required to take an assessment called the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA). These two grade levels will take the 3 Science Tests before Spring Break.
GRATEFUL FOR THE SMALL THINGS
It is typical for middle school- aged children and teens to make comparisons to others and become focused on what they wish to have. But, taking time each day to pause and have gratitude for the small things they do have can help their physical and emotional health. Practicing gratitude can help improve relationships, sleep, self-esteem, and feelings of contentment.
Children and teens often need learning to create a daily practice of recognizing and appreciating something good in their life. Adults can help them find a time each day to reflect and walk them through some of the key points to focus on to find their moment of gratitude.
You could help them to:
Notice the ordinary things that make them feel good
Think of unexpected moments that were nice
Celebrate things that are going well
Think of people in their life who treat them with caring or respect
They might also find it helpful to tell others they appreciate them, write down the things they’re grateful for, use a language of gratitude (thankful, blessed, fortunate, etc…), or to pause when they say “thank you” and notice how their body feels or what is happening in that moment.
