From the Principal
Hello Burns Park Penguins,
The time is here and all of us at Burns Park are over the moon excited for the start of this school year. Teachers have been preparing their spaces to be warm and inviting and our custodial staff has worked hard to make sure the halls are shiny and bright.
Staff and students will begin this school year focusing our time on building a community of learners who foster a love and understanding of healthy relationships with peers and staff. Our special area teachers will lead each grade level in some team building activities and opportunities that strengthens their sense of self and belonging at Burns Park. The students will undoubtedly have fun while learning through movement, cooperation, problem solving and creativity. We look forward to what your child(ren) will share with you about the first days of school.
As a reminder the cafeteria will open will for breakfast at 8:30 for any student eating at school. Staff will be ready to receive students at the 8:45 bell.
See you in a few hours,
Principal Bullock

Family Needs
Each year the Burns Park Community celebrates a number of school events together. This ranges from picnics, walks/runs to outdoor parties. This survey has been created so that you can inform Burn Park of possible supports your family may need to fully participate in school wide events.
If you have experienced an expected or unexpected hardship that has made it difficult to participate in activities that are not a necessity, please let us know.
*Note: This information being shared is confidential and is collected and seen by Principal Bullock only. Principal Bullock will not share your name with entities. Total numbers is the only thing shared.
Volunteering at Burns Park
We are excited to extend volunteer opportunities to the community. Your time and talent are welcomed. Please use the following form for all volunteer opportunities.
No Homework Policy
New this year, Burns Park is instituting a no homework policy for students. It is important to Burns Park that we help your family prioritize a school/life balance. Teachers will be communicating curriculum with you by sharing Math Homelinks (daily or at the start of each new unit) and the rest of the content areas through weekly or monthly newsletters.
We highly encourage that the time spent out of school is focused on enjoying family time, things that your child(ren) enjoys and reading. Is it recommend that families spend 15-30 minutes reading and/or listening to literature daily.
Chromebook Policy
This year students will use their chromebooks at school only. With our no homework policy students will not have a need for additional screen time during the day. *It is recommended that children aged 6-17 be limited to up to 2 hours per day of screen time.
Fruits & Veggies Only Snack
Students will have snack at school 1-2 times a day (your child's teacher will share specifics) and are allowed to bring FRUITS or VEGGIES ONLY. Please be sure to send all snacks in a separate container from the rest of their lunch.
Birthday Celebrations
Burns Park loves to celebrate and your child's birthdays is no exception. Our tradition at Burns Park is to do so in non edible ways. If you would like for your child to celebrate at school here are a few non food suggestions: you could send in a special game, activity or favor, you could surprise them as a mystery reader, or you could donate a book to the class library. Please consult your child's teacher if you have other non food ideas for celebrating.

The PTO has donated new recess equipment to the school. All students will have access to the equipment daily. There are a variety of balls, jump ropes, etc. Please make sure that personal items are left at home.
