Welcome to Ranger Nation, Jeff Lyons!
thank you to Jeff Lyons for an engaging and informative presentation for our students today! We also appreciate the Ferdinand Branch Library for sponsoring such a fantastic event!
Mr. Lyons discussed how weather occurs, what to do in severe weather, and exciting career opportunities in meteorology. He also answered students' questions and emphasized the importance of checking and verifying sources—especially going straight to the primary source when possible!
What a great learning experience for our students!

This is being paid for from the PTO funds which were raised from the Walk-a-Thon. Students will need to bring their own lunch to eat at Churchill Downs.
***The field trip will be an extended day. *** We expect to return to CCI approximately 6:15-6:30, so your child will need to be picked up.

Wellness: From Nurse Shelby
As most of you know, we have been experiencing a rise in illness here recently, and I wanted to take a moment to remind you all of some everyday steps you can take to help prevent the spread of germs and help keep you and your family healthy.
Wash your hands frequently. Did you know that hand washing is one of the best ways to prevent spreading germs to others? It is best practice to wash your hands with soap and water before you eat, after using the restroom, after coughing, sneezing, or blowing your nose, and when your hands appear visibly dirty. An alcohol based hand rub is suitable in most cases as long as your hands are not visibly soiled.
Cover your coughs and sneezes. Whenever possible, it is best to cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, rather than using your shirt sleeve. This is because you can throw the tissue away once you are finished and reduce spreading germs as you go about your day.
Clean frequently touched surfaces. Regular sanitizing of frequently touched surfaces such as cell phones, student’s chromebooks, bathrooms, door knobs, desks and countertops can help reduce the spread of germs. If someone in your home has been ill, taking a few minutes to wipe down frequently touched areas can help reduce the likelihood of spreading the illness to other family members.
Stay home when you aren’t feeling well. If you are unwell, stay home to limit contact with others and allow your body time to rest. Unless your doctor tells you otherwise, a good general rule is to stay home until you have been without episodes of vomiting, diarrhea, or fever (a temperature of 100.4 or greater) for at least 24 hours without the help of fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol or Ibuprofen. Any other symptoms you’ve had should also be overall improved prior to returning to your normal activities.

AI for Families
From the Desk of Mrs. Erica Hohl, SED Curriculum Director
So far, we’ve explored what AI is and why it matters for our children’s future. But how is AI actually being used in education today?
This next video takes a closer look at the role of AI in schools—how it’s helping students learn, supporting teachers, and shaping the classroom experience. As AI continues to evolve, understanding its benefits and challenges can help us guide our children in using technology responsibly.
Watch the video here: AI in Education: What Parents Need to Know
By staying informed, we can work together to ensure AI enhances learning in meaningful ways!

March Lunch Menu
Food Safety & Fresh Ingredients: Addressing Meal Concerns
We understand that there have been some concerns regarding the use of raw products in our meals. As we continue incorporating fresh, high-quality ingredients into our menus, we recognize that some items may look or taste different from what students are accustomed to.
One common misconception is that color indicates doneness, when in fact, temperature is the safest measure. To provide more information and address any concerns, we encourage you to review this resource from the USDA. Please rest assured that our cafeteria staff are fully trained in food safety and follow the necessary protocols to keep the food we are serving safe.
Thank you for your continued support as we remain committed to providing nutritious, high-quality meals.
