A Message from Dr. Clark
November 15, 2024
Dear Jesus,
Give me a thankful heart,
realizing that all I have comes from You. Amen
Dear Holy Cross Community,
Happy Friday! November is the month of gratitude. We are so very grateful for each and every one of you. Wholehearted thanks for making Holy Cross such a special community and entrusting us with your child's education. We are committed to providing the best possible spiritual and academic experience. This is evident daily thanks to the inspiring commitment and hard work of our outstanding faculty and staff, who continue to go above and beyond to support our wonderful students, and this week was no different. In addition to witnessing students learn and grow in every classroom, we came together to honor Veterans at Mass on Thursday, supported Grades 3-8 students engaged in a second Mathletics tournament (where several students placed!), and cheered on Grade 8 girls as they attended the "Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day" today.
With Thanksgiving break approaching, we have a fun-filled week ahead:
Parent Power Hour
Join fellow Holy Cross parents, Fr. Abner, Mrs. Bridges, and Dr. Clark to learn about the power of togetherness and involvement in the community this upcoming Monday, November 18, from 6:00 - 7:00 pm in Pflumm Hall.
Kinder Information Night
A Mardi Gras Celebration - Save the Date!
At the heart of a successful school is an engaged and strong community that comes together to serve our students best. We wholeheartedly invite you to share your God-given gifts of Time, Treasure, and Talent in service of our school and Parish this school year. We have many opportunities for involvement and look forward to your wonderful contributions. We are actively seeking volunteers for:
- Leading our Silent Auction and Volunteer needs. Please email me if you can support these needs.
The first Steering Committee Meeting will take place on Thursday, November 21 at 7:00 pm.
Every Fall, I find myself spellbound by the beauty surrounding us, where every leaf is like a flower, and colors remind us of the possibility of new opportunities and possibilities. Importantly, Fall is a continued reminder of the wonderful gifts God has given us and how He will forever be by our side.
With appreciation and best wishes for a blessed weekend,
Paola V. Clark, Ed.D.

Virtuous Formation Program/Education in Virtue
Holy Cross has adopted a School-Wide Positive Behavior Support System called the Be Holy Cross Virtuous Behavior Formation. Expectations are clearly defined under the “Be Holy Cross” framework. Students are expected to conduct themselves in keeping with the expectations set in this framework to be caring, responsible, obedient, and successful stewards. Individual, classroom, and school-wide expectations will be taught at the beginning of the school year and emphasized at various times. Students will be acknowledged for positive behaviors. This aligns with our annual theme: In a world where you can be anything...Be Holy Cross.
Education in Virtue is the Archdiocesan Catholic Social-Emotional Learning program, a key component of our Virtuous Formation Program. It provides a curriculum and resources developed by the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, based on St. Thomas Aquinas’ teachings on the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit. These resources provide a framework for helping people of all ages understand how to live more virtuously.
At Holy Cross, we highlight a virtue each month that is woven organically into lessons and our daily school life. They are used in our announcements to guide our morning prayer, selection of the Saint of the Month, activities for our Faith Families, and classroom lessons. The virtue of November is Gratitude.

School Attendance
Dear Parents,
As the school year progresses, we kindly remind parents and caregivers of the importance of prompt school attendance for their child's success. Chronic absenteeism and tardies affect attendance and undermine your child's success. We strongly encourage all students to be in their seats at 8:00 am. If your child is ill or has an appointment, please email or call the office and nurses to let us know. If there is an issue your child has making daily attendance difficult, whether it be a chronic illness or mental health-related, please do not hesitate to contact the nurses and the counselor to see if we can help put a plan in place for their success. We love and cherish all of our Holy Cross students. Please help us set them up for success and have your child here daily and promptly at 8:00 am. Thank you very much for your support.
School Attendance Matters article
We at Holy Cross have had a few cases of walking pneumonia. Many schools in the area, hospitals, and urgent care facilities have expressed they have also seen an increase in Mycoplasma pneumoniae or "walking pneumonia."
What is "Walking Pneumonia"?
Walking Pneumonia is a milder case of pneumonia with more mild symptoms than are typically seen in pneumonia.
Symptoms may include:
(Symptom onset is typically gradual)
- diarrhea
- wheezing
- vomiting
- fever
- cough
- sore throat or headache
- chest pain from coughing
Symptoms usually appear within two to three weeks of infection and can continue for weeks. A cough could continue for months. Walking pneumonia is contagious. It's spread through airborne droplets from close contact, such as coughing, sneezing, or speaking. Good hand hygiene (washing hands with soap and water or using hand sanitizer) and covering your mouth when coughing help stop the spread of this infection.
