SISD Announces SES Asst. Principal
SISD Trustees Approve Melissa Garza as New SES Assistant Principal
Melissa Garza has joined the SES administration team as the campus’ assistant principal. The Board of Trustees approved her promotion at their meeting last week.
“I am very excited to have Mrs. Garza in this new role,” SES Principal Sherrie Koerner said. “ She has extensive knowledge and experience with this age group and will be a valuable resource to our teachers and parents. She has made such an impact already in her first year in Sunnyvale and has built great relationships with teachers and parents. Her love of kids and putting students first shines brightly wherever she goes. She will be an incredible addition to our admin team.”
Garza moved into the administrative position after working as a first grade teacher at SES last year. Prior to working in SISD, she was employed by Mesquite ISD for nine years as a first grade teacher.
“I have a passion for helping kids learn how to be independent problem solvers academically, socially, and emotionally,” Garza said. “My hope is to help more students and teachers in this new role. I joined Sunnyvale last year and fell in love with the family feeling at SES. Everyone was so welcoming and is always so helpful. I am excited to continue working with the amazing team of educators at SES.”
Ms. Garza’s extensive experience in the elementary school setting is a win for the SES campus.
“I have taught first grade for 10 years and I have learned so much about early childhood education along the way,” she said. “I am looking forward to being a part of a team that continues to teach others and helps teachers be successful, which helps our students be successful.”
Mrs. Garza and her husband Hunter I live in Mesquite with their two-year-old boys, Cruz and Jett.
