Dear South Parents and Guardians:

We are excited to announce that Mr. Steve Prorok has been hired as the new principal of South Middle School, effective July 1, 2025, as Dr. Morrison is retiring at the end of this school year. Mr. Prorok is a lifelong resident of Arlington Heights, he brings a deep understanding of our community along with extensive knowledge and experience in education. His commitment to fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment aligns perfectly with our school's values and mission.

As we approach the mid-year mark, we will recognize students at our end of 2nd quarter all school assembly on January 24, where we will celebrate students' individual and team achievements. Notably, those students selected as CARDS (Caring, Achieving, Respectful, Dedicated, and Serving) recipients will be honored and invited to sign the wall on January 31st.

Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on February 14. If you attended conferences in the fall you have already created a login account this school year, and should use the same username and password to access PTC Wizard. Please see detailed information below.

Additionally, students participated in MAP testing on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. We will be using this data to help support our students academic goals. The MAP data reports will be emailed home to families on January 29th.

South will be conducting a practice Lockdown Drill the morning of January 23rd. The Arlington Heights Police Department will be present and supporting us during this drill.

• February 11th - 8th grade graduation pictures. The students will be assigned a time based on their picture ticket provided by the portraits. Please understand that the students will still need to change for PE for the day even if the picture time is after the PE class.
• March 12th - Graduation picture retake day for those that are not able to take their photos.

• May 29th - 8th Grade Great America Field Trip

• June 2nd - 8th Grade Picnic from 12:30-2:45pm at South
• June 3rd - 8th Grade Graduation @ 4:00 pm at Forest View Education Center Field House: 2201 S. Goebbert Rd., Arlington Heights.

School-age children are susceptible to various common illnesses.

We encourage you to take a moment to review this Information Letter on Common Illnesses for valuable guidance.

To help prevent these illnesses, please remind your child to practice healthy habits, including:

• Washing hands frequently.

• Staying well-hydrated.

• Avoiding the sharing of personal items, food, or drinks.

• Refraining from touching their eyes.

• Covering their mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter as we work together to keep our students healthy and safe.

The Second Quarter ends on January 24, 2025. Report Cards will be emailed home on January 31st. Please partner with us to check Powerschool and work with your child to ensure everything is turned and students finish the quarter strong.

Come out to support South Theatre and ABC/25 on Friday, January 31st at 6pm with our South Middle LIVE improv & sketch comedy show! Tickets are $5 for a night of multiple student-led performances that are bound to get you laughing, plus proceeds go to support ABC/25 Foundation, an organization dedicated to supporting the learning of students in District 25.

Join us for a night of fun, we hope to see you there!

We are looking to honor South Middle School graduates who have made significant accomplishments/achievements by displaying them on an SMS TV monitor that is located in our school entrance. We are asking you to please complete this form and provide us with a picture of the graduate.

Most students receive a yearbook through their parent’s South PTA Individual/Parent Membership or by pre-ordering during D25 registration. However, for non-PTA members now is your time to order a Yearbook!

Quantities are limited, so order early.

Order before March 1st. You have 3 ways to order/pay:

1. Send a Check. Cost is $25 (non-mbr) or $20 (mbr). Make checks payable to "South PTA", note your child's name in the memo line. Deliver to the main office.

2. Send Cash. Cost is $25 (non-mbr) or $20 (mbr). Include a note with your child's name. Deliver to the main office.

3. Purchase Online. Cost is $26.64 (non-mbr, includes $1.64 CC processing fee) or $21.44 (mbr, includes $1.44 CC processing fee); you'll enter your child's name and homebase/teacher. Order at https://smspta.memberhub.com/store.
