K-3 DENTAL EVENT MARCH 19-21
Neighborhood Health Center Oral Program will be hosting a free Dental screening for our K-3 students at Colton Elementary School on March 19-21. Please look in your child's take home folder for a yellow permission slip packet this week. Free dental screenings, sealant placements, and brushed-on fluoride are offered by dental care professionals. You can choose any, all or none of these services, but please sign and return the form by March 12. If you have any questions, call the elementary office at (503)824-3536.
We have counted the CandyGram sales. Thank you for your support! All candy needed was donated, so Student Council collected and raised a total of $361.15. We estimate we sold about 1,280 CandyGrams in addition to cash donations. We will discuss and vote how to spend the money to make our school a better place.
Sincerely,
The 24 members of Colton Elementary's Student Council

Science - Technology - Engineering - Math in the Library
S.T.E.M. Fun in 4th and 5th Grade
Our 4th and 5th grade students are beginning to prepare for our school STEM Fair. We will be discussing what interests students in the areas of Science, Technology and Engineering and how to create a project using experiments, math and research.
See February's Football Goalposts Engineering Projects below. The goalposts had to have a horizontal beam that was 10 inches high and standing. Students had to create a kicking device that kicked a ping pong ball through the goalposts. It was so fun to see their creativity come alive.
S.T.E.M. Fun in 2nd and 3rd Grade
Our 2nd and 3rd grade students are learning it's important to look at "trustworthy" websites to get accurate information for research. We explored the Gale in Context: Elementary resource. Find it here if interested (scroll down to the "Research" globe image).
S.T.E.M. Fun in Kindergarten and 1st Grade
Our Kindergartners and 1st grade students have been learning block coding and programming skills. They are programming in code.org. Now that students know how to LOOP and repeat commands, they will be learning how to use EVENTS in block coding throughout March.
