Progress Reports: Term 2 has concluded and teachers are working to complete progress reports which will be published in Aspen on Friday, March 21.
Shamrock & Read: On Monday, March 17, we'll have a green and gold spirit day as part of Shamrock and Read Day. Students will have extra cozy reading time and some fun raffle prizes from the PSO as we celebrate how lucky we are to be such amazing readers!
Important Chorus and Band Info:
The All-School Chorus Concert involving all chorus students in grade 3-12 will be held on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:00 P.M. in the Cohasset Middle-High School gym. All Deer Hill Chorus members should report to the middle-high school gym no later than 6:00 to rehearse with students from the middle and high school choruses. Students have been asked to dress nicely, as they would for a picture day.
The All-School Band Concert involving all chorus students in grade 3-12 will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 7:00 P.M. in the Cohasset Middle-High School gym.
- Students will need to be in the Cohasset High School gymnasium by 6:00PM. Please have students enter from the back of the building by the gymnasium. Cohasset High School is located at 143 Pond Street, Cohasset, MA 02025, and the drop-off circle by the gymnasium can be accessed through the district office entrance across from Woodland Drive.
Students will need to bring their folding music stand (if they own one), their music folder, and their instrument.
- As concerts are a more formal occasion, we ask that students wear something nicer than what they would normally wear to school. A good example of an outfit that works would be a polo shirt and pants. Please don't feel obligated to go out and purchase anything just for this event, we all know how fast they grow out of things!
The Wheels on the Bus Stay Safe and Sound -- Thanks to You: Principal Mills shared the following reminders in his recent CMS newsletter, and they are equally important to our Deer Hill bus riders. Additionally, please review these relevant School Committee policies on bus ridership conduct and acceptable technology use.
We want everyone to be safe and comfortable as they travel to and from school. While the bus ride can be an opportunity for students to socialize, it is also important to remember that we expect students to exhibit the same behavioral expectations on the bus as we do every day within our school building. As we approach the second half of the school year, we’d like to take this time to remind both students and parents about the important bus expectations that help keep everyone safe and respectful during their commute. Students are only allowed to ride their assigned bus and must be on time, as bus drivers cannot wait for latecomers. Riders must board and exit at regular stops and are not allowed to go home on a friend’s bus. Respect for private property, following the bus driver’s directions, and maintaining proper behavior are key to ensuring a smooth ride for all. Excessive noise, profanity, food, and drink are not allowed on the bus, and students should keep their hands to themselves, avoiding any behavior that may disturb other passengers. Throwing objects, climbing over seats, leaning out of windows, or littering are all prohibited. Lastly, the school’s rules about technology remain in effect—students should not take photos or videos without permission. By reinforcing these expectations at home, we can ensure a safe, respectful, and enjoyable bus experience for all.
PSO Parent Event: Aligned with our District work with the book, The Anxious Generation, our PSO is hosting an informative night for parents and caregivers that is VERY relevant to the Deer Hill age group. Please complete this survey (whether or not you're able to attend) which will help tailor Dr. Englander's presentation. Deer Hill students will complete a similar survey in technology class the week of March 17. For more information about Dr. Englander's presentation please visit this PSO page.

A Message from Our School Committee
SUBJECT: How Will You Contribute to Our District Community Resource Guide
Dear Cohasset Public School Families and Staff:
Cohasset is a community comprised of experts in a wide variety of fields. In order to deliver more authentic, hands-on, project-based learning experiences to students, the Cohasset School Committee, in collaboration with district leadership, is working to develop a "Community Resource Guide." This Guide will serve as an invaluable resource to our classroom teachers and school staff, as it will provide them with a comprehensive database of all stakeholders and interested parties who are willing to share their background, experience, and expertise in furtherance of our mission to Empower Students to Improve Communities.
There are many different ways in which one might participate in this endeavor, including classroom presentations, hosting or facilitating field trips, creating shadow or internship opportunities, or assisting with project-based learning experiences.
If you are willing to share your unique talents, passions, interests, and/or expertise, please click this link to fill out a brief interest form. We thank you for your willingness to volunteer your time in order to deliver impactful learning experiences to CPS students.
Onward and Upward,
Your School Committee
Deer Hill Happenings
Grade 4 Field Trip to SSAC: This week half of our 4th grade classes visited the South Shore Art Center where the participated in a hands on Storytelling Through Art workshop. Next week our remaining 4th graders look forward to the same opportunity!
We Love Our Community Experts! Many parents, family members, and others in the community take time to visit our classrooms and share their careers, cultures, and hobbies with our students. This week Dara M.'s mom joined Ms. O'Hara's class where she taught students how St. Patrick's Day is celebrated in Ireland. She also touched on Irish myths and legends. What a treat!

CPS Purposeful Play & Risk Challenge
Each month Superintendent Shannon includes a suggestion for purposeful play and developmentally appropriate risk. Here is a review of February's challenged -- stay tuned for March's soon!
Keeping up with our Anxious Generation purposeful play and responsible risk taking challenges, I am inviting you to join in on our February activities. This month, our challenges are:
Purposeful Play Challenge
Winter is always hard because we're often stuck indoors. How can you encourage your children to play differently at home this February? Is there a game you haven't played together in a long time? Have a new game you haven't played yet? A family favorite in my house for a long time was Monopoly Deal - a quick, card game version of the real game. I highly recommend it!
Responsible Risk Taking Challenge
Encourage your child to take one new step into independence. This will look different for children of all ages. For an early elementary kiddo, getting their own breakfast might be a new level of independence. For an upper elementary student, trying to do all of their homework on their own might be new. For a middle school student, maybe it's staying home alone. For a high schooler, maybe it's making their own doctor or dentist appointment. Only you will know what's right for your child, but encourage them to try something they've always done with you or that you've done for them, without you.
