Updates From The Principal
Hello NRMS Families,
We have reached the end of the first quarter of the 2024-2025 school year. Our teachers will be posting their grades to Aspen and we will publish the first quarter report cards in Aspen before the Thanksgiving break. Report Card grades are the formal documentation of student progress and the grades on the report card should not come as a surprise to parents/guardians, or to students. The start of a new quarter is an opportunity for students to reflect on their first quarter performance and create a plan to maintain or improve their achievement in each of the courses for term two. On Tuesday, student schedules are updated with a new exploratory course. Additionally, we will work to balance class sizes following the typical enrollment changes that occur during the start of the school year. As such, some students will have a new schedule that includes the same teachers, but a different class section.
Last week, we learned of a number of students who had sleep over events on Halloween night, which this year was a school night. In some cases, this did not have an impact on attendance or behavior the next day. However, in other cases this led to some concerning issues. We confiscated edibles and vape products (see photo below) from some students on Friday of last week. Overall, we believe cases of students experimenting with marijuana and nicotine are down this year, at least at school. Friday's investigation was a reminder that we all need to be vigilant in having these discussions with students and we need to continue to share with you what to look for. As we have shared in the past, sometimes these products are hidden in plain sight. We encourage you to have regular conversations with your child and also consider searching backpacks periodically so that we keep these products out of our school. We also would kindly suggest that sleep over events do not take place on a school night, so that our students are arriving to school set up for success following a good sleep. Thanks for your partnership with us, as our students navigate these times.
On Monday, we honor our Veterans. There is no school on Monday. Tuesday November 12 is the start of the second quarter.
Enjoy the long weekend.
