Thank you Iron Mountain-Kingsford Community Schools for hosting and to the several IMHS student volunteers who made this annual event possible.

Congratulations! You will be missed!
Jeff Christiansen
Mr. Christiansen has been teaching at IMPS for thirty years, since 1994. Twelve of those years were spent teaching at Central Middle School and eighteen years was spent teaching at Iron Mountain High School. Mr. Christiansen was extremely involved during his time at IMPS. He coached wrestling for eighteen years as both assistant and head coach. He has taught driver education for 25 years, and has coached our middle school and high school Science Olympiad team for 25 years.
Mr. Christiansen will "never forget the awesome colleagues that have made a huge difference in his personal and professional life. The third floor was the most exciting work environment; I wish everyone could have been a part of it! Because of that experience, I still get excited every morning to come to school and talk with my colleagues and students. I will never forget the students, literally! I can see all of their faces and pretty much remember everyone's name! I have said it since my first days at Iron Mountain; we have a really unique and diverse mix of students from every different kind of background imaginable. Outsiders might look at that and think it must be a very chaotic and stressful environment, but it is not, it actually works great! It works because of the character and quality of our students, parents, and community. I hope my former students will remember me because of the way I treated them. I hope they remember me showing up for work everyday with a smile on my face. I hope they find value in their jobs like I did in mine!"
During retirement, Mr. Christiansen plans on traveling, fishing and hunting more. Thank you, Mr. Christiansen and congratulations on your retirement.
Jodi Maycunich
The achievements she is most proud of are those which had the greatest impact on children. Mrs. Maycunich arranged a fundraiser with Chevy and raised $2000 for the kids at North Elementary, organized a school supply drive during the Flint water crisis, adopted many families during Christmas, participated in McTeacher Night, and implemented a calming corner in her classroom to help kids deal with social/emotional problems.
After retirement, Jodi's husband, who also retired on May 31, and she plan to spend time with family, play PickleBall, bike ride, golf, kayak, participate in winter activities, and travel . Her journey over the last 30 years "was successful because of the support, collaboration and camaraderie with colleagues in which I have developed lasting relationships. I extend a heartfelt thank you for my remarkable teaching career at Iron Mountain Public Schools". Thank you, Mrs. Maycunich and congratulations on your retirement!
Michele Haferkorn
Mrs. Haferkorn has been teaching at Iron Mountain since 1994 as a Middle School Technology Teacher and District Computer Technician. During her time as a Mountaineer, she has taught Elementary Art, Physical Education, STEM, Computer Science, Coding, Computer Apps, Science, Algebra, Title 1 Interventions to small groups and in classrooms. She also acted as Lead Teacher for the middle school and elementary for 10 years and as 7-12 interim principal for a year.
In addition to volunteering at athletic events, and being a proud IMEA member- she has been Junior Class Advisor, Middle School Activities Coordinator, Middle School Student Council Advisor, District and Regional Reading Olympics Coordinator, Elementary Art Club Advisor, and has taught IMHS Drivers Education.
Some of her favorite memories are “traveling for PD out East, Florida, and especially downstate to MACUL are times I will never forget; great team building activities and lots of shenanigans. Let’s leave that right there. School camp holds a story from each class along with the other middle school activities that I was part of over those years right up to the 8th grade trip to Noah’s Ark this year. We had a great time and pretty much ruled the park! I have really met so many great humans that helped me along the way and those that I am still close friends. Lastly, teaching my children was the best. It is a special time to be called Mom in the classroom and share your work successes with your children. They all graduated from Iron Mountain so even though we were all transplants, Black & Gold probably does run in our veins.”
After retirement, Mrs. Haferkorn plans to visit her children and grandson- Theo, traveling, traveling, traveling, gardening, concerts, riding my bike, and working…part-time. She would like to share, “I have really enjoyed teaching and sharing my love of learning with students over the years. I was fortunate to teach a variety of subjects and grade levels and belong to a family of great educators. It meant the world to me to have such amazing friends at Iron Mountain while I was navigating some super difficult health and personal loss issues. I can never truly thank those who supported me enough. I am looking forward to a “new” adventure and whatever life brings my way!”

Good oral health is important to help children be healthy and ready to learn, and the purpose of this screening is to make sure your child does not have any dental problems that would prevent them from doing well in school. Tooth decay is the most common chronic illness in children. Dental problems can cause pain and make it difficult for children to eat, speak, and sleep, all of which may prevent them from reaching their full learning potential.
