CVU Celebrations
February 21, 2025
Dear CVU Community,
Play is essential. When we allow ourselves to be vulnerable—singing and dancing in front of peers, shooting hoops, or playing capture the flag—we lower our guard, worrying less about what others think and focusing more on each other.
This year’s Carnival may have been my favorite yet. Rahn brought the entire senior class into the dance by serenading them, while Spags and Leanne extended the invitation beyond the staff to the entire student body.
The photos can’t fully capture it, but there’s something special about seeing our community laugh, dance, and play together. This afternoon was a perfect reminder of how we take care of each other.
Well done, CVU. Enjoy the break!

From Audrey Eastridge: Here are some photos of displays around CVU put up by the fine arts department showcasing students' work from multiple Intro to Art classes. They are located in the display case in the science wing and the bulletin boards near the cafeteria.
From Cari Causey: Thank you to Tim Carter from Fleet Feet for coming and talking to a small group of students about being a small business owner.
From Charlie MacFadyen: Yesterday CVU hosted Meet 4 of the Greater Burlington Math League season. Thirteen schools from around the region participated. We placed fourth on the scoreboard, but first in enthusiasm and camaraderie, as always!
Representing CVU were:
Gavin Blackburn, Jack Daly, Brady Driver, Jackson Dubois, Connor Dubois, Robin Dubrul, Finn Etter, Pat Frazier, Jacob Graham, Oliver Guiterman, James Haines, Alyssa Hill, Gwen Irwin, Georgia Knight, Jillian Knight, David Merchant, Mikaela Montoya, Clay Nicholson, Jonathan Postlewaite, Owen Scott, Henry Shrier, and Ellie Zweber. Jacob had a perfect paper in Arithmetic (for his 8th perfect paper of the season!).
As always, a big shout-out to Kiran MacCormick for all his help with the team. I also want to thank the following folks who went above and beyond to help out: Hannah Carey, Geoff Glaspie, Corinna Hussey, Karen Kirkland, Monica Carter and Julie St. Martin for proctoring, Darcy Cochones and John Sherman for their flexibility on the maintenance schedule, and Nichols and Snelling teachers for use of their spaces.
From Lizzy Fox Lausier: Members of CVU's Poetry Club will have their work published in The Hinesburg Record on the final Thursday of each month, beginning next week! Snag a copy on February 27th to read pieces by the group's student co-leaders, Ace Caldwell and Abigail Usher.
The CVU Dance Team placed 2nd for Junior Varsity Jazz at South Burlington on January 18. Then on January 25th they placed fourth in all of Junior Varsity at Mt. Anthony. On February 1st we placed 3rd in Junior Varsity Jazz at North Country. Then lastly we placed 3rd in Junior Varsity Jazz at MMU on February 8th.
JVB boys basketball accomplishment - Under the direction of Coach Travis Hart, these boys came together as a true team and excelled! To quote Coach Hart at the mid point of the season: “In the last 6 games we are averaging an impressive 72.1 points per game with an average margin of victory of 35.3 points per game”

Dear Parents/Caregivers:
Over this past week, during Advisory, students have begun the scheduling process for the 2025-2026 school year. As part of this, they received the 10th Grade Course Request Worksheet or 11th/12th Grade Course Request Worksheet, along with a Course Credit Worksheet to help them track their progress toward graduation requirements. Students can review their completed courses and credits in their PowerSchool account under Historical Grades to assist with this process.
Advisory discussions have focused on helping students reflect on their academic journey, ensuring they are on track for graduation, and considering future course options. Teachers have also been sharing insights on course offerings and making recommendations for students to consider. While these conversations are happening in school and during the Advisory/PLP Conferences, we encourage you to continue them at home. You can explore next year’s course offerings together by referencing our 25-26 Course Catalog.
Scheduling Meetings with School Counselors
Students will meet with their School Counselors on the following dates to finalize their course requests:
Juniors – March 6th & 7th (during U.S. History classes)
Sophomores – March 10th & 11th (during Integrated Biology classes)
Freshmen – March 12th & 13th (during Core classes)
Students should bring their completed Course Request Worksheet to their appointment, along with any remaining questions they may have.
If your student is not enrolled in the specific course listed above, knows in advance they won’t be in school or they are absent on their scheduling day, please have them reach out to their School Counselor to reschedule.
Thank you for your support in helping your student plan for a successful school year ahead. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
