JAN 14: Medical Education Grand Rounds - Understanding the past to shape our educational future: Building pilina through our mo`okū`auhau
The first Medical Education Grand Rounds (MEGR) of 2025 will feature Lee Buenconsejo-Lum, MD, FAAFP, Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, and Martina Kamaka, MD, Professor, Dept. of Native Hawaiian Health, will speak about JABSOM's moʻokūʻauhau, the history and lineage of JABSOM as a Native Hawaiian place of learning.
Dr. Buenconsejo-Lum and Dr. Kamaka will speak in person in MEB 301, therefore in-person attendance is encouraged.

FEB 3: Application Deadline: 2025-2026 CLI Creative Pedagogy Award
JABSOM's HMSA Center for Learning Innovation (CLI) is currently accepting applications for the third Creative Pedagogy Award for the 2025-2026 AY. Up to three selected applicants will be awarded up to $3,000 USD for education innovation projects.
Application proposal forms, budgets, and optional brief letters of support should be emailed to Ms. Kori-Jo Kochi (kjkochi@hawaii.edu), with subject line, “CREATIVE PEDAGOGY SUBMISSION”.
Deadline to submit is Monday, February 3, 2025. Awards will be announced in March 2025.

First Friday Open House - Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Excellence
The Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Excellence (OVPAE) ensures excellence in teaching and learning endeavors across University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa academic programs by working with and through faculty and executive management to plan, develop, coordinate, improve and manage a dynamic and responsive portfolio of academic programs.
To increase access to the campus, provide guidance on hot topics, and accelerate the sharing of ideas, OVPAE invites all UH Mānoa personnel to Hawaiʻi Hall for our “First Friday” open houses.
Faculty and staff are welcome to stop by with questions, comments or ideas to share with any OVPAE staff from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served in the Hawaiʻi Hall 209 conference room.

Purpose
Attention principal investigators (PIs), research administrators, research development professionals, and anyone else interested in NIH Research Enhancement Award (R15) grants!
In this virtual event, participants will learn about the two NIH R15 programs:
- Academic Research Enhancement Award (AREA) for Undergraduate-Focused Institutions
- Research Enhancement Award Program (REAP) for Health Professional Schools and Graduate Schools
- These grants are designed to provide support for meritorious research at domestic institutions that have not been major recipients of NIH support, to strengthen the research environment at these institutions, and to give students an opportunity to gain significant biomedical research experience. Webinar participants will gain insights into the application process and the review criteria with an opportunity to participate in a live Q&A with a panel of NIH experts.

FEB-SEPT 2025 JABSOM DOSSIER BOOTCAMP
The 2025 JABSOM Dossier Bootcamp will be starting in February and will be meeting monthly on the 4th Mondays until September. The promotion/tenure dossier (application) is due the first Friday in October. It is highly recommended that all faculty planning to apply for promotion this year (Oct 2025) participate in this program. This is an 8-month mentoring program that will cover strategies to put together the dossier application. Sessions will be recorded for those who would like to participate but are not able to attend all sessions.

Join us for a relaxing 30-minute yoga session tailored for all experience levels, led by certified yoga instructor Gunes Aytac, JABSOM ABP Faculty. Please bring a yoga mat.
Gunes, a yoga instructor with a medical background, combines expertise in anatomy with a passion for yoga. Practicing yoga since 2016, she completed a 200-hour teacher training in 2019. Gunes welcomes practitioners of all levels to explore yoga with her. Register here!

In partnership with the Center on Disability Studies and the College of Education, the OFDAS Center for Teaching Excellence will host UH Mānoa's one and only sensory room in Kuykendall 106 each Monday. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to visit the sensory room throughout the semester.
Sensory rooms are now common in schools, hospitals, and community spaces. These rooms use equipment to create a controlled sensory-focused environment. A sensory room creates a safe space to self regulate and manage over-stimulation and stress and can be beneficial to anyone.

We are currently seeking abstract submissions for the 2025 Hawaiʻi Addictions Conference (HAC), scheduled for Friday, April 11th, 2025.
If you are interested in being considered for presentation at the 2025 HAC, we invite you to submit a preliminary abstract no later than Friday, February 21st, 2025. Presentations may be on case studies or original unpublished research. Interested participants can submit their abstracts via email to sburns@hawaiiresidency.org.

It's hard to believe it's that time of year again! The 2025 Leeward District Science and Engineering Fair is just around the corner and we need your help and expertise as a judge! 2025 Leeward District Science and Engineering Fair NEEDS YOUR EXPERTISE!
High school students will be presenting the results of their research conducted during the last year and your expertise is needed. You will be assigned a few projects and asked to interview the students and rank their efforts. This usually takes about an hour of your time. We cannot conduct the fair without your help!
