News From the Principal
Dear AES Patriot Families,
I interrupted SEL lessons this week and reviewed Bus Safety with the students. We went over how to sit safely on the bus and bus expectations: quiet voices, no getting out of the seat while the bus is moving, not eating on the bus, taking care of the bus, how to load onto the bus in the morning, and to wait for the thumbs up signal from the bus driver if you have to cross in front of the bus. We also reviewed what happens after the bus driver reminds you of the rules two times: a dreaded bus slip heads to me and then to you. We also discussed what to do if you encounter a problem on the bus. We talked about ways to make the ride enjoyable: reading, looking at a book, or talking quietly with a neighbor in your seat. Next week, I will conduct bus evacuations with the students in the morning. It is just another one of our annual practice drills we do. Thank you, Mrs. Reich, for allowing me to be in your time slot and pick up the ball when I was out at the preschool.
Have you seen the new basketball hoops in town, two doors over from the school? If you have time in the afternoon for pick-up games, that's the place to go.
I am looking for two families to be part of our monthly School Council meetings. We meet monthly on the first Monday for roughly 20-30 minutes. If interested, please reach out to me at agapp@nmrsd.org
During a walkthrough of the classrooms this week, I joined kindergarten during a dance break—the Sit Down Stand Up song, and boys, do my knees hurt, lol🤣 and 4th graders learning about caring for their clarinets and trumpets!
Thank you to all the families who were able to join us for our Open House this past Wednesday evening. What a gorgeous night, right? It was wonderful seeing everyone, connecting with past students and how they are doing, and even families checking out our Wall of Fame photos from years past. If you didn't catch our bullying slide show that took place in the library, the link is just below. Also below are the slides or curriculum information from each of the different grade levels.
Payment for Fall Pictures can be sent in to AES as late as Monday, Sept 16th. Another option is to call O'Conner studio to make a payment over the phone. They keep the pictures on file for a few months.
The high school homecoming is set for September 28th. Our school will have a banner displayed, and if any current or past families would like to walk the parade with our amazing banner, please e-mail me.
Please check out our school website for some updated school photos. Speaking of our website, this is the URL address if you need to update your bookmark: https://aes.nmrsd.org/
Remember that every Friday is Patriot Day, and students are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue or their NM Patriot gear!
If you have any concerns, questions, or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out (agapp@nmrsd.org).
Mrs. C.

News From Guidance
Grade 3 - News From Music
Hello 3rd Grade Families,
A big part of 3rd grade music is learning to play the recorder. Students will learn to read music, play an instrument, and be responsible musicians. Your child will need a recorder to participate in music class this year. You are able to purchase a recorder with free shipping through Sweet Pipes, who works with our school. Your order receives free shipping, and is delivered to the school. I then distribute recorders to students. Ordering is simple.
1. Navigate to https://sweetpipes.com/
2. Click "School Recorder Orders"
3. Click "Please Select" and find our school in the drop-down menu (it is at the bottom of the list).
Then, simply select the color of recorder your child would like, fill out payment information, and confirm your order. You will receive order confirmation, and after the ordering window, all recorders will ship directly to the school.
Please note that all Sweetpipes orders must be in by Friday, September 20th and any orders placed through the school order option after that date will not be fulfilled.
Please see the attached document for visual guidance. If you have any trouble ordering, please reach out to me at nfrench@nmrsd.org
Thank you for your time.
Signed,
Mr. French

News From the Mr. Turner - BOKS Program for Grades 3 & 4
The BOKS Program
Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s),
I would like to inform you of an enrichment opportunity for your child(ren) here at Ashby Elementary School. Unlike our other enrichment classes this one will run in the mornings from 8:00 to 8:45. This is a 12-week program being offered to our 3rd and 4th grade students beginning on Thursday, January 9th with the final class taking place Thursday, April 3rd. We will meet most Thursdays for those 12 weeks (please see attached chart for specific dates). The program will be offered through Reebok’s “BOKS Program” (Building Our Kids Success).
“The BOKS Program” is currently offered in over 10,000 elementary and middle schools across the United States and Canada. The program’s main purpose is to help prepare students’ brains and bodies for a day of learning. Additionally, the program allows for students to increase their level of weekly physical activity by 45 minutes per week. The two focuses of the program will be physical activity and then towards the end of the 45 minute period, a discussion about nutrition.
If interested in signing up your child(ren) please fill out the attached form and turn it in to the AES main office by Thursday, December 12th. This program will operate on a first come, first serve basis and has a limit of 30 students. The program has a cost of $60.00 per student and requires a parent or guardian to transport the child to the school at 8:00am. If your child(ren) is/are one of the first 30 forms we receive, we will contact you and provide you with a registration form and require a $60.00 fee.
***PLEASE NOTE: If we do not have at least 20 confirmed sign-ups by Thursday, December 12th then the program will be canceled and all money will be fully refunded.***
Please feel free to send me any questions that you might have regarding the BOKS program. You might also want to take a look at the BOKS website for information regarding who they are and what they do (https://www.bokskids.org/).
Thank you for your continued support,
Chris Turner

News From the Cafeteria
Starting in September, there will be 3 choices for lunch. What is on the menu for each lunch choice will be served on all trays for that choice. The trays have compartments, each item will be placed in a different compartment. If your students does not want something, they can choose not to eat it, but the lunch room staff has to serve it.
Pictures!
