The eLeader
The official digital newsletter of La Porte ISD
Greetings, La Porte ISD Family.
Today is a great day to be a Bulldog! This has been an exciting weekend. First, the City of La Porte and the La Porte-Bayshore Chamber of Commerce held the annual Kids Rodeo and Fall Festival on Saturday, and much fun was had by all. Events like this are testaments to the commitment of our local leaders to keep our wonderful city an outstanding place to live and raise a family.
On Saturday evening, the La Porte Education Foundation celebrated 30 years of supporting La Porte ISD with an anniversary gala. Since its inception, the Foundation has given back $2.7 million for classroom and campus extras that enhance education with creative instructional projects for students and teachers. Not only was the gala an extravagant and fun event, it was also a way for participants to support the Foundation in their ongoing efforts. I speak for hundreds upon hundreds of grant recipients over the past 30 years as I offer my deepest gratitude to the Foundation and its supporters. Learn more here about how you can support the La Porte Education Foundation's ongoing efforts.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- Congratulations to our La Porte High School varsity Tennis and Water Polo teams, who advanced to the playoffs this past week! We couldn't be prouder that you represented the Bulldogs in the postseason!
- Our Bulldogs football team and band also deserve major kudos. On Senior Night on Friday, the Bulldogs bounced back from their only district loss a week ago to beat New Caney Porter in thrilling fashion, 56-42. The regular season is winding down, and we are eyeing the playoffs! The Mighty Bulldog Marching Band and Color Guard, meanwhile, earned the district's first UIL Sweepstakes award of this school year with an outstanding performance at Saturday's UIL Marching Contest in Channelview. The success that our student-athletes and performing artists enjoy is due much to our outstanding coaches, directors and dedicated parents. Thank you for helping us continue our legacy of excellence!
- Finally, 27 students at Heritage Elementary School this past week were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. Please join me in congratulating these young scholars for their commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.
Have a great week!

College Park students learn the 'Game of Kings'
College Park Elementary students are learning chess — the game of kings — in a recently established after-school chess club. Reggie Delaney, who works for Mitsubishi Chemical (the school's Partner in Education) volunteers on Thursdays to teach interested students how to play the game. Students started by learning the names and moves of each piece. This past week they began to take what they have previously learned and put it in to action. Not only is it fun, but according to the National Scholastic Chess Foundation, playing chess can help students academically by teaching them a variety of skills, including visualization, critical thinking and problem solving.
Perimeter fencing going up across the district
Teacher Feature
Ms. Julia Cadriel is a kindergarten teacher at La Porte Elementary, and she has a passion for embracing cultural diversity! For the past month, her class, has been focused on celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, learning about the culture through a variety of activities incorporating literature and art. They will culminate their learning with a highly anticipated fiesta! We are so proud to have Ms. Cadriel on our LPISD team!
