A Message From the Principal
Good afternoon,
The rest of the month of February is busy! We are participating in a door decorating contest during Flex for Hope Squad. The theme is empathy and students are already busy planning.
NJHS is also sponsoring a food drive competition for the Fremont Township Pantry. We will be sharing some information with students in the upcoming week. Students will be participating in teams, with some friendly competition ending during our PAWS assembly this month.
Finally, Student Council will be sponsoring the February Frenzy. Students should be signing up with Student Council to participate in the basketball event. We will also have other activities for students on February 28th from 6-8 pm.
Warm Regards,
Emily Loerakker
Fremont MS Principal
Student of the Month - January
Congratulations to all the Student of the Month award recipients for January. Students received PAWS prizes this week and parents/guardians will receive information about the nomination in email.
Fitness Testing - PE classes
The state of Illinois requires students in Grades 3-12 to participate in an annual fitness assessment. This program, called FitnessGram, is a comprehensive health-related fitness assessment that measures four key areas:
Aerobic Capacity (PACER test in Grades 4-12)
Muscular Strength (push-ups or curl-ups)
Muscular Endurance (curl-ups or modified test)
Flexibility (sit-and-reach test)
PE classes will be participating in fitness testing the week of February 17, 2025.
Lake County Future Quest
All 7th and 8th graders from Fremont MS are invited to the Lake County Tech Campus FutureQuest. Students will sign up and rotate through various programs and vocations that the Tech Campus has to offer. This is a hands-on experience!
Transportation will be provided to and from Fremont Middle School. Buses will depart following student dismissal on 4/9 and return back to Fremont MS for pick up at 7:15 pm.
Please complete the following form, giving parent/guardian permission and letting us know of your preferences on the careers and programs you'd like to learn more about.
If interested, please fill out the permission slip by Friday, February 28th.
Join Us for Parent Book Club Night! - Feb. 11
Excessive technology use and its potential consequences are concerns for many parents. With that in mind, we invite all parents to join us on February 11 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Fremont Middle School for a Parent Book Club discussion on the New York Times #1 Bestseller "The Anxious Generation" by Jonathan Haidt. We’ll explore all three sections together, share thoughts, and discuss how to navigate the challenges of raising kids in the digital age.
While we encourage parents to read the book in advance, it is not necessary to have read the book in order to join us for the discussion on February 11. For individuals who would like to listen to the book, an audio version can be found at Audible. The evening's event will be an opportunity to share our own experiences with our children's technology and social media use.
District parents, administrators, and psychologists will collaborate to lead the discussion. We'll also be offering complimentary soup for attendees. While it is not required to RSVP to attend the discussion, we ask that you please do so if you intend to take advantage of free on-site childcare that evening (see link below).
Additional Resources:

Early Pick-Up Procedures
If your student needs to be picked up early, please notify our main office at 847-566-9384 or send an email to the receptionist, Karolina O'Malley, at komalley@fsd79.org. A parent/guardian or designated person must present identification to pick a student up early. Please note that the latest pickup time is 2:00 PM on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 1:30 PM on Wednesday. Parents cannot park in handicapped parking spots near the gym as it interferes with bus pick up.
