From Karen Shannon, GCHS Principal
Off to a Great Start!
Students and staff are working hard and adjusting well to the changes this year brings while getting settled into school routines. We look forward to partnering with you in supporting your childโs success. Hereโs to a fantastic year ahead filled with new challenges, achievements, and memorable experiences!
We have a busy month ahead and want you to be aware so please read fully and click on all necessary links.
As always, we invite you to connect with your child's teachers, Advisor, and the office with any questions.
Happy Fall,
Mrs. Shannon
๐ MAP Testing Tuesday & Wednesday this Week!
What's that mean for me?
- ๐ปSend your student with their Chromebook fully CHARGED ๐
- Remind them to eat breakfast! ๐ฅ It's FREE at school!!! (7:45-8:10 a.m. every day!)
- Encourage them to TRY! ๐ง All we ask is for them to DO THEIR BEST! โญ This gives us a glimpse of each student's math and reading levels.
- Seniors do not test - arrive at 10:10.
- Career Academy students attend at 8 a.m. as usual - including Seniors
Attendance ๐
28% of our students were chronically absent in 23-24. ๐
Please make attending school a high priority. We cannot do our job without students' regular attendance in class.
- Communicate with the office by 9 a.m. if your child is going to be gone.
- Make appointments outside of the regular school day when possible.
- Request a doctor's note any time there is a visit to a doctor, therapy appointment, chiropractic, etc. during the school day.
- Auto calls will go out every day at 9:20 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. if your child has been marked unexcused for 2 classes.
- Letters will be sent home after 3, 6, and 9 days absent (this includes excused and unexcused)
- Parent meetings can be called after 10 absences.
- A student can be dropped from a class after 9 unexcused absences. This can affect graduation.
Students should treat school like a job. Attend everyday! The pay: a quality education, a diploma, and the life skill to show up.
๐ Nick "Sunshine" Tokman Visit
Workshops
GCHS hosted Nick, star from the show "The Deadliest Catch" who now spends his time encouraging students to follow their dreams, work hard to achieve goals, and how to have hard conversations. It was a meaningful and fun day for GCHS! Thank you to BOOST and Home State Bank for funding this event.
All smiles with Sunshine!
