Principal's Message
Dear Corbett Families and Students,
The month of October has flown by marked by some great events at the high school. Most fall sports have wrapped up, with the added benefit of a mostly dry fall that made the stadium field play-able the entire season. Volleyball is headed to Coos Bay for a shot at the state title, we hope everyone can make the trip! In the classroom there were several celebrations for Halloween, including the Great Pumpkin lab in AP Biology. Mrs. Trisel had students test the prediction that the ratio of pumpkin seeds to pumpkin segments is 15 to 1 with the statistical analysis tool of chi squared. The leadership class also sold Halloween-Grams to raise money for future activities.
With the end of Trimester 1 coming up, homeroom teachers have been meeting with students who have only one incomplete grade in order to support these students in passing all of their classes. This focus is on this particular group of students as we believe they have it “mostly” figured out, and may need just make a few small adjustments in their academic processes to be successful. Parents and students should log into Studentvue to check on their grades, and make plans to ensure that they are on track! The end of the trimester is November 21st, and note that there is a whole week off for Thanksgiving.

Upcoming Healthy Teen Survey for 11th Graders
On Tuesday 11/12, our school is participating in the Student Health Survey (SHS), a survey sponsored by the Oregon Health Authority Public Health Division and the Oregon Department of Education. The survey asks about health risk behaviors of students in grades 6, 8 and 11. The survey will be conducted online in 11th grade Homeroom and includes questions about student health and safety, mental and behavioral health, school climate and culture, and risk and protective factors.
More information about this survey has been sent to 11th grade families. As a reminder, if you do not wish your child to take this survey, return the opt-out form to the office before November 4th, 2024. You only need to return the form if you do not wish your child to participate. If you have other specific questions about the survey, please feel free to contact the Director of School Based Mental Health, Jacque Brandow at (503) 261-4299 or jbrandow@corbett.k12
Senior Corner
Seniors are reminded that some colleges and universities had their early action/early application deadlines on November 1st and others are coming up. Each institution sets their own deadline, so students should make sure to check the timelines for the schools they are hoping to attend. If a student missed early action, it just means that they will apply in the next window.
Ms. Pekny, our school counselor, is here to support you and your family every step of the way. If you have any questions at the moment, please reach out to Ms. Pekny at spekny@corbett.k12.or.us and she’ll be happy to help!
Ms. Pekny is also organizing group college visits this fall. Check out the Senior Google Classroom for more information.

Let's Go Cards!
Volleyball hosted Scio to kick off its playoff run Saturday evening. The gym was packed and the student section out-performed. Thank you to B&b Pizza Company for providing pizza for the students! The Cardinals beat the Loggers 25-13, 25-13, 25-13. Our Cardinals will advance to the quarterfinals next Friday at Marshfield HS in Coos Bay at 1:00 p.m! Go Cards!
Football traveled to Clatskanie Friday for their last game of the season. The Cardinals lost 24-40. There are many highlights from this season and our Cardinals improved with each game they played! Corbett finished 4-5 for the season. Thank you to all of our coaches, players, and fans for their efforts this season!
Cross Country competed in the District Championship which was one of the hardest runs all year because of the cold, the rain and the slipperiness of the course. These were some of the toughest conditions runners face. Even so, the Cards continued to shine! Flynn and Gavin both set personal bests and despite horrendous conditions, Bryce, Jack, Claire, Elaia, Oren, Ezryn and Holden all paced near their personal or season best. Shout out to seniors Natalie, Flynn, Logan A. and Bryce who all ended their seasons with a successful and memorable last race. Coach Rondema and Coach Carley recognize the phenomenal growth athletically, personally and socially of our athletes. The team values of Passion, Purpose and Perseverance have been on display all season at training, at meets and in class. It is fitting that after finishing their last race, many of our athletes stuck around in the pouring rain and cheered on their teammates and runners from other schools and also cleaned up and left spaces better than we found it. Bravo Cross Country for representing Corbett with Pride!
