MIDDLE SCHOOL
Pine Tree Middle School has had a fantastic May. Our staff and students have been busy this month trying to get the most out of our short time left together.
Our 5th and 6th grade students went bowling and to the movies to see KungFu Panda 4 last week. Students also enjoyed going to the splash pad and to several other club field trips. Meanwhile, many of our 6th grade Reading classes have read The Westing Game , a fascinating and ingenious mystery by Ellen Raskin. The students completed final projects based on the book. PTMS is reading together and succeeding together!
Sixteen 6th grade students from Pine Tree Middle School attended the Region 7 6-8 Robotics competition on Tuesday, May 14, in Kilgore. Seven teams from PTMS participated in the event, using Lego EV3s and Lego Spike Prime robots. Each team competing had three opportunities to run their programs. The highest two scores for each team were added and the lowest score was dropped. After the arena competition, team captains were presented with a challenge round, where they had approximately 1 hour to work on a program to try and bring ping pong balls back to their randomly assigned section of colored tape.
APRIL TEACHERS OF THE MONTH
Our teachers of the month for April were Mrs. Popular and Mrs. Elmore. Both do a fantastic job and were recognized at our final staff meeting last month.

Field Day
Our Pack students enjoyed one of the most fun days - Field Day! Our 1st through 4th grade students showed off their running, jumping, and throwing skills. We had so many events to choose from. We had the 4 x 100 meter relay, 75 meter run, 100 meter run, 200 meter run, softball throw, long jump, and everyone’s personal favorite-the obstacle course.

Art Show
The 10th annual Art Show kicked off last Thursday at Parkway. Mrs. Scaggs, Parkway Art teacher, created an amazing show. Everyone’s favorite area - the glow in the dark room was a big hit. The gym was turned into a silent auction room that had the most creative, beautiful clay pieces we have ever seen. Our students were so excited to show off their artwork not only to their families but also to their teachers.
HIGH SCHOOL
GRADUATION IS HERE!
May has arrived, work has been completed and now it is time to graduate 293 Pine Tree High School seniors.
Graduation will occur on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 8 p.m. at Pine Tree Stadium. In case of rain, the seniors will graduate with limited tickets available in the Pirate Center. Family members not getting tickets will be able to watch via stream in the theatre or the cafeteria. On Friday, May 17th, students will participate in the Senior Breakfast, Senior Walk and Senior Picnic.
UIL Academics has returned from state competition where PT had a number of competitors. This marks the last official competition of the year, and it has been a good year for Pine Tree students. The school has earned excellence in a number of areas that makes this year memorable.
Students are now looking forward to summer vacation and a break before seniors start college, the military or a job.. This year has been a good one for PTHS.
Mark Thomas, longtime welding instructor, is retiring this year after a very successful career. Mr. Thomas will be missed not only by his students but other faculty as well. He has been a valuable asset to Pine Tree.
As Pine Tree says goodbye to the seniors of 2024, we say goodbye to the last class that was on the high school campus during COVID. We are hopeful our graduates have good memories of the school and will take these memories with them as they leave.
Graduation is a big moment in their lives, and the PTISD administration wishes all of the seniors only the best as they graduate and go on to their next adventure. This has been a memorable class, and they will never be forgotten. Best wishes, Class of 2024!
