Welcome to the Crew!
Ms. Melissa Hunt - Instructional Assistant 4th Grade
Mrs. Melissa Hunt will be joining the Buckhorn Creek Elementary staff as an Instructional Assistant for the 2024-25 academic year. While this is her first stint with the Wake County Public School System, she is a seasoned veteran when it comes to working in academic support settings and helping children succeed. Her previous experiences include: 14 years in college athletics in a variety of roles with majority being in the academic support area, managing YMCA after school and summer camp programs, working 1-1 with students through tutoring/mentoring/developing study skills, and subbing at a local charter school.
Mrs. Hunt earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management at N.C. State University and completed her Master's Degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Sports Administration at East Carolina University. She resides in Apex with her husband Ryan along with their children Banks (11) and Taylor (9).
Ms. Molly Blair - 3rd Grade
My name is Molly Blair and I have been teaching since 2020. I am originally from Massachusetts, but I call North Carolina home. I graduated from Meredith College with a degree in Psychology and K-6 teaching licensure. Prior to joining Buckhorn Creek Elementary School, I taught ELA in both 5th and 3rd grade at Hodge Road Elementary. I recently got married in March to my wonderful husband. We have two fur babies, Lola and Tank. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, reading, and spending time with my family.
Ms. Grace Fitzgerald - 3rd Grade
My name is Grace Fitzgerald and the 2024-2025 school year will be my first year teaching! I am originally from New York, but will be making the move to North Carolina this summer. I received my degree in Early Childhood Education from SUNY Potsdam in 2023 and have spent the last year earning my Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Potsdam. I will be joining the Buckhorn Creek Elementary staff as a 3rd grade teacher and could not be more excited! I have a sweet golden retriever named Saylor who I love to take on trail walks. I also enjoy playing soccer, visiting the Outer Banks, shopping and reading. I am so thrilled to become a Crewmate!
Ms. Kristin Buckley - Special Education Teacher
My name is Kristin Buckley and I am a recent transplant from New York State. I began my teaching career in 1992 in the State Department of Corrections where I worked with special needs students in the juvenile justice system. However, most of my experience has been working in both co-taught and special class settings in K-12 public schools. My undergraduate degree is in Communications (Ithaca College) and my Master’s is in Special Education (SUNY New Paltz). I have two adult children and a cattle dog named Chomsky who likes to herd our family around the house. In my free time, I love to read and line dance.

Meet the Teacher!
We have worked with the other Holly Springs and Fuquay Schools to align our Meet the Teachers to provide families in multiple schools. The alignment will assist families with students in multiple levels.
Students will be able to bring materials to their classroom during meet the teacher.
Change!!! An email will be sent to families on August 19th with class assignments. The original plan was for teachers to call families. However, due to the limited time emails will be sent to provide teachers additional time to prepare their classrooms.
Stock the House!
We are excited to expand our global connections once again this coming school year as we welcome back Ms. Jo-Anne Robinson-Tiffin from the UK and to welcome for the first time Ms. Julie Nyuama from Kenya! We are expecting them both to arrive in early August!
As they begin planning their moves, we are looking for ways to help them get established. Like our other teachers from abroad, they will arrive with just 2 simple suitcases. Thus, we want to provide as much support as possible. If you happen to have an extra set of pots and pans, dishes, silverware, or any other kitchen items in your house that you no longer need, please drop it off to the Buckhorn Creek office. We will also be looking for any living room furniture, dressers, etc. Anything you have in your home...they will need!
We have some items from left from past teachers that have moved back to the UK, but not nearly enough to stock two apartments.
