Announcing Rigler's New Principal
June 2024
Dear staff and families:
I am pleased to announce that Cinnamon Bancroft will be the new principal of Rigler Elementary School.
Cinnamon is well known to the Rigler community, having served as the assistant principal since 2021. As Rigler’s AP, she spearheaded several initiatives aimed at improving the school’s culture, including developing and facilitating professional development to strengthen student achievement and growth, and designing Rigler’s comprehensive schedule to provide educators with access and time for crucial team collaboration. She also led the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support team and served on the district-wide High Quality Teaching and Learning Building Leader committee.
In addition to over a decade as a Dual Language classroom teacher, Cinnamon has devoted many years to supporting other educators. Before coming to Rigler, she worked first as a Dual Language New Educator Mentor, supporting the growth of first-, second- and third-year Dual Language, World Language, and English Language Development instructors, and then later as a Senior Lead Mentor. Prior to this, she was a Teacher on Special Assignment for the ESL Department. Her extensive experience also includes serving as an education mentor facilitator for the Oregon Department of Education and coordinating a partnership between Portland State University’s Russian Flagship program and Portland and Woodburn Public Schools to develop a K-16 Russian Language Curriculum Framework. Cinnamon is bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and got her start as a classroom teacher within a Transitional Bilingual program.
Cinnamon earned her B.A. in Foreign Languages from Lewis and Clark College, her Master of Arts in Teaching from Portland State University, and her English as a Second Language/bilingual endorsement from Western Oregon University.
Please join me in congratulating Cinnamon Bancroft on being named principal of Rigler Elementary School.
Cordially,
Dr. Jon Franco,
Chief of Schools
