Principal Updates
We are FINALLY back!
Students and staff returned this morning on a delay, and we are so happy to be back into a routine.
New cafeteria furniture was installed on Dec. 23rd to update our shared space with Borden High School, and the students seem to LOVE it. It's visually appealing, but the tables now come with attached stools and benches, and our sixth graders are really enjoying the new hi-top options!
As soon as we know which dates will be snow make-up dates for last week's inclement weather, we will communicate those to you. New superintendent Dr. Brent Comer is evaluating our options and communicate with families as soon as possible.

Report Cards
You have the right to your child's academic progress at any time. You don't have to wait for a quarterly report card, as we don't even print them anymore!
Log in to Infinite Campus any time to see in-progress grades. Everything you need is right at your fingertips on your device.
Borden Youth League Baseball & Softball
This athletic program is not run through the school; contact bordenyouthleague@gmail.com with questions regarding registrations, schedules, and team rosters.
ROCK - Raising Our Children's Kids
If you are a grandparent or guardian raising a family member's child or children, Our Place Services has a program called R.O.C.K. that you might find helpful. See the flyer below.
Grades, Attendance, and Cafeteria Accounts
If you haven't already, download the Campus Parent app and choose Borden-Henryville as your school district. This will allow you to enter your unique username and password to access students assigned to you as their guardian.
At no time should you be in doubt of your child's academic progress. According to the BHSC Grading Policy, you'll see grades populate for each of your students' classes throughout the semester.
Event Calendar
Important school events, like picture day, fundraiser dates, and athletics or performing arts concerts are always found at https://bes.bhsc.school/o/bes/events. You can scroll through the months to help fill out your family's calendar and never miss a Hat Day, Pajama Day, or other important days!
As we fill in dates for big events, such as Field Day and Awards Day, you'll see those populate. You will not see field trips on the calendar. Those are communicated through permission slips sent home. We do not advertise to the general public when our students will be out of the building in an effort to ensure student safety.
Documents for Parents
Supply lists and weekly classroom newsletters, in addition to these monthly newsletters, can be found online, as well! Visit https://bes.bhsc.school/o/bes/documents/for-parents/646927 to find those items.
The school meals program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). The use of the federal waiver from COVID is no longer available and corporations have returned to the traditional eligibility requirements for free, reduced and paid meals. This means that for School Year 2024-25, our school corporation will process free and reduced-price meal benefit applications filled out through the parent portal, or you can request a paper copy through the office by emailing bfolden@bhsc.school We need these annually to avoid gaps in your child's free/reduced meal status in the cafeteria. If you have not renewed your application from last year, those benefits expire in September.
Prices for full-pay meals are listed below.
Elementary breakfast - $2.10
Elementary lunch - $3.10
This means that if your child eats both breakfast and lunch in the cafeteria, even if they do not purchase extras, they would need $5.20 per day or $26 per week to cover their meals. If your child's account is not flagged, they may also purchase extras, such as chips or ice cream, and that money is depleted more quickly. You may NOT run a negative balance in the cafeteria. If you're unable to put money in your child's lunch account to keep a positive balance, you are always welcome to send a lunch from home until you can bring that account back up.
If you do not wish for your children to purchase extras, please email bjohnson@bhsc.school with your child's name and your desire to limit them to what is served on the food trays only (items are easily found each day on the monthly cafeteria menus).
Helpful Reminders
- Drop-off
- Buses unload at 7:35 AM. Car riders may come up the hill after buses go down the hill (usually around 7:45 AM). If you plan to walk your child up the sidewalk to the front door, please park at the bottom and walk up the sidewalk outside the building.
- If your car rider needs a few extra hugs, kisses, or a pep talk in the morning, please park at the fence and walk them across the crosswalk. Holding up the car rider line for a prolonged goodbye starts everyone's morning off in frustration.
- Snacks
- Feel free to send a filled water bottle (water only, please) and a healthy snack with your child. We know they're used to grazing throughout the day all summer and will need a snack to get through the day!
- Dismissal
- Our day ends at 2:50 PM. Car riders in grades k - 6 will be brought to the bottom of the hill where the two car rider lines form in front of the high school. We cannot let that line move until all students are loaded and buses have cleared the parking lot.
- Please be sure that the person picking up your student is on the pickup list and has photo ID.
- PreK parents - continue to wait in a parking space in a bottom lot and come up to the gate to get your child after the buses leave. Do not get in the main car rider lines at the bottom.
- PreK parents - Mrs. Ferraro cannot load your child and buckle them. She will walk your child to your vehicle, but if your child needs assistance getting into a booster seat, an adult should get out to provide that assistance. We know your littles take a bit longer to get inside, so we've allowed for a separate PreK pickup spot to allow other traffic to continue to move while we safely dismiss Prek students.

Borden Blessings
Borden Blessings mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for children right here in our community. Bags are discreetly placed in children’s backpacks by teachers when other students are out of the room (during lunch, recess, or special area classes).
Currently, we are serving 51 of 330 students EVERY Friday afternoon with a bag of easily opened and prepared food to help remove this barrier from our students' growth and development.
If you would like to donate, please visit Borden Blessings - Amazon Wish List to purchase items and have them sent directly to the school.
Pick Up Patrol
For transportation changes and absences, we be use Pick Up Patrol again this school year. We think you'll find it incredibly easy to use, and it will ensure transportation changes are received and communicated to all necessary staff. It will also allow you to report absences without having to call the attendance line! If you cannot access Pick Up Patrol from your email you used to register your child, please call us at the elementary office to have the invitation resent.
