Need 2 Know
Vanguard Lead Coach
As your lead coach, it is not simply my responsibility to keep up with your "tasks." In fact, that's probably my least favorite part of this position. My real focus is supporting all members of the team and helping you to do your best "Vanguarding" at your schools. With that being said, here are some things to keep in mind.
- Please reach out if you are overwhelmed or don't understand what you need to be doing.
- Please invite me to come to any Vanguard meetings at you school. I'm happy to participate, support, share, etc.
- Please ask me to come support you if you need help - that's exactly what I'm here for and I have the flexibility to do so.
- Please brag on yourself and share amazing things that are taking place in your classroom or your school.
I know that Vanguard asks a lot of you, but we try to give as much in return. Thank you for the amazing work that you are doing for our team and for Fulton County.

Showcasing the Work
Medlock Bridge Gets a Student-Run Garden
With the guidance and hard work of METI, Leigh Martin, and STEM Coach, Kim Richards, Medlock Bridge ES students get to experience authentic PBL with their newly formed garden. Each grade level has a garden to care for and a form for documenting their efforts. After hands-on garden time, students scan their grade-level QR code to answer a series of questions. (Check out the 3rd grade form here.) In addition to their separate efforts, student data is available on a school-site for all to access. I think a Roving Reporter trip is in order to truly showcase this amazing collaboration!

Congratulations!
Congratulations to Beth Valentine and Hapeville ES who will be loaned a set of Finch Robots through Birdbrain Technologies' loan program. Beth shared that they requested to have them between January and March and recruited 5 programmers to volunteer time to help our 3rd grade students learn how to write code to program them. The teachers are all on board – home room, ESOL, EIP, Special Areas. They plan on working with students during the school day, during specials with in the library, during after school programs and with the public library as well. They hope to present at GaETC 2016 to show what happened and how it went. Way to go, Beth and Hapeville!
