Our new schedule this year makes attendance crucial for students' academic success, and it's extremely important they attend bell to bell. We are seeing a number of students in the building, but not attending their whole classes. We want to remind you that we have multiple codes for attendance:
Arriving to class marked VL (very late)
Leaving early without permission, or asking to leave early for another reason
Missing class entirely
As you look at your student’s attendance in ParentView please ask your student about any attendance codes that may be coming up. If you need help signing up for ParentVue please do not hesitate to call Sheldon High School and we can help set that up for you.

Measles Outbreak
Dear Parents / Guardians,
We hope this message finds you and your family in good health. We’re writing to keep you informed about the recent measles outbreak in Oregon. Thirty cases have been confirmed in Marion, Clackamas, and Multnomah counties as of August 29, all in unvaccinated people and all but seven of the cases are in youth under 20 years of age.
We know news like this can be concerning. Fortunately, the measles (MMR) vaccine is safe, and two doses is 97% effective in preventing measles.
To prevent measles and other serious illnesses, we recommend being up to date on immunizations. Vaccines, including MMR, are readily available to all 4J students at our school-based health centers, as well as at health care providers’ offices, pharmacies, and Lane County Public Health (541-682-4041). Please consider scheduling an appointment soon.
4J health centers are located in two schools and are open to all 4J students and siblings.

Exclusion from School Per state regulation OAR 333-019-0010, if there is an exposure to a contagious illness like measles, schools are required to temporarily exclude students or staff who are deemed susceptible, such as those who are undervaccinated. This exclusion could last up to 21 days or more, depending on the situation, to prevent further spread and to ensure everyone’s safety.
About Measles Measles is a highly contagious viral infection that spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It poses a serious health risk to those who are unvaccinated, immunocompromised, or pregnant. In fact, nine out of ten unvaccinated individuals who are exposed to measles will contract the virus.
Symptoms include fever (sometimes over 104°), cough, sneezing, nasal congestion, runny nose, red eyes. Tiny white spots may appear in the mouth 2-3 days after symptoms begin. A rash starts 3-5 days later, typically on the face and neck, spreading downward. If you suspect measles, call your primary care provider or local public health department immediately. Call 211 for questions about measles or vaccines.
While we respect individual beliefs and the right to make personal healthcare choices, it’s important to understand that measles can lead to severe complications, including hospitalization or, in rare cases, death. Protecting the health of our students, staff, and community members is our top priority.
Up-to-date information on the current measles outbreak and public exposures can be found on the OHA website.
Health Support and Resources If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s health or vaccinations, we encourage you to contact your healthcare provider. The Oregon Health Plan (OHP) offers support to all children and teens under 19, regardless of immigration status, who meet income and other criteria. You can find help enrolling in OHP here.
Thank you for your partnership in keeping our school community safe and healthy. Together, we can help ensure that our children stay protected and continue learning in a safe environment.
