The Howl

Greetings Wolf Pack!
There is so much to celebrate this week. CONGRATULATIONS to our DEFENDING STATE CHAMPION Forensics Team who brought home their 2nd State Championships to end their UNDEFEATED SEASON. Even when they split to go to two competitions the same weekend... THEY STILL WON BOTH! If you are interested in learning more about Forensics and how you can become a part of this dynasty, connect with Ms. Dahlgren. We also celebrate our very own Ms. Sandee Ortiz being name NATIONAL Health Teacher of the Year through SHAPE. We also celebrate our FIRST OVER SP United ROBOTICS team heading into their first competition and coming home with the Rookie All-Star Award. We take all of this exciting momentum into our Pre-ACT test for our 9th and 10th graders this week as we also gear up for AP Tests. Standardized tests aren't everything, we have SO MUCH BRILLANCE happening right now at West, let's show it off on these tests too!
April is also a time for many awareness, acceptance and heritage month celebrations. Last week we celebrated Hmong Heritage Month which we continue to celebrate all month (and year) long. This week we highlight Sexual Assault Awareness Month with a WIN time around consent. Upcoming in the next couple of weeks will also be Autism Acceptance and Arab American Heritage celebration.

In Ms. Dahlgren’s class, students welcomed guest speakers to learn more about agriculture in Wisconsin. Two local dairy farmers spoke with us, and Katilyn Riley-Kessler (shown here) from the Wisconsin Beef Council joined by video call! Students got to see real-world examples of topics we had been studying in the messages the guest speaker shared!
Legal Studies
In Mr. Barth’s class, students did an activity about procedural due process. Students were supposed to make the American Flag out of playdoh. But some groups received instructions that were intentionally vague. Students learned how different procedures and expectations can lead to very different outcomes.
