Eye on FISD

With a little help from Board members, we delivered a sweet surprise to our entire Floresville ISD staff! We delivered Crumbl cookies to all of our employees as a token of appreciation for all they do to make great things happen in our schools. Thank you!

There's still time to give! The Floresville ISD Education Foundation is accepting donations through Go Give! The fund collected will help fund grants for innovative teaching and learning, plus students can receive fun incentives if their campus reaches a donation goal!

In 2023 alone, the foundation awarded a record $128,471.17 in grants and initiatives to teachers. Students have benefitted from these grant in various ways, including the use of digital microscopes, flexible seating, field trips, and more! Donate here!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Mental health conditions can begin to develop in young children. Click here for information about mental illnesses. The FISD Social Services Department has created a list of resources for those needing assistance. Here are some helpful tips to improve mental health.

The FISD Social Services Department will be hosting a Resource Fair on Monday, June 3, at 9:30 a.m. in the cafeteria at Floresville South Elementary. Families in need of assistance during the summer are encouraged to attend. There will be resources available, giveaways, and helpful information for families.

Our next big in-person enrollment event for new students will be August 1 from 2 p.m. - 6 p.m. in the cafeteria at the Floresville Early Childhood Center. We will be welcoming new students for ALL grade levels for the 2024-2025 school year!

Registration for Palo Alto College Youth Summer Camp 2024 is now open! This is an opportunity for students entering grades 6th through 12th and recent high school graduates registered as incoming freshmen at PAC for Fall 2024 to engage in STEM activities over the summer break. Register here!

Nominate one of our Floresville ISD teachers to be the next Educator of the Quarter! The Wilson County News is accepting nominations for the third Educator of the Quarter through June 30, 2024. Winners are selected based on 1) originality/creativity of statement, (2) inspirational power of Nominee’s story, and (3) embodiment of “Educator of the Quarter” theme.

Mrs. Silva, Mr. Sekula, and Mrs. Peck were all nominated by a parent. Here's what she had to say:

"We moved from the UK to Texas, and my 3rd grader did her STAAR test this semester. I was a bit stressed, worrying - as a mother does - that I wasn’t doing enough. My daughter was cool as a cucumber because she has the most amazing teachers (Mr. Sekula and Mrs. Silva). When I spoke with them on the phone, I immediately knew I was overreacting and just being a worried mum and had nothing to worry about because these teachers are fabulous. As a mother moving from one country to another you do worry if your children will keep up with a different school curriculum and culture difference, but [my daughter's] teachers have been amazing. She has thrived this year, and I’ve enjoyed watching her grow!

My [1st grader's] teacher I would also love to mention because she is also a superstar and [my daughter] has enjoyed every day she has been at school. With having been exposed to new bugs, we have had a few sick days, but she has been a trooper and has said 'I want to go in because I want to see Mrs. Peck and my friends.' She has really enjoyed this year and I feel she has really found her feet and settled into being in Mrs. Pecks class.

The girls love their school and take pride in their school. I know I can’t nominate everyone at Floresville South, but I would if I could because you all have really made the transition from the UK to the USA for this British worry-wart of a mum so easy. Thank you so much :)"
