Tustumena Elementary Newsletter
February 5, 2020
Our Lost & Found is growing! Please be sure to check it out and have your child check for lost belongings. Smaller items are in the office so feel free to ask to see the small item lost and found. Items will be placed on a "free" table during February conferences, then donated.
The weather looks like rain may be coming. Skiing will continue as planned unless the rain changes things. If skiing is cancelled, you will receive an independent newsletter and/or call regarding any cancellation. We will follow the pre-skiing after school plan for your student in that case.
Next week, February 10-13th, is Love of Reading Week - Monday is door decorating day, Tuesday is bookmark making day, Wednesday is Pajama or Sweats day, Thursday is Wear Red day. There is no school next Friday, February 14th for parent/teacher conferences.
Request for Science Stuff From Mr. Hayman
Howdy. I will be working with the fifth grade classes on an electricity unit soon. It will be a “hands on” center but I could make it a lot more fun if I had enough supplies to send materials home with the students so they could continue to explore. If you have any of the following list available and are open to donating it to school, maybe we can send everyone home with their own project.
Materials needed:
- · Small LED lights
- · Large magnets (like from the back of speakers or microwaves)
- · Enamel covered copper wire (#18- #12 size is big enough)
Thank you.

Notification of 2018-2019 District and School Report Cards
Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s):
Recently the Alaska Department of Education & Early Development (DEED) released the 2018-2019 Report Cards to the Public for each school district and school in Alaska. This user-friendly website aims to provide families with clear, common information about all public schools and districts in our State. These report cards to the public contain data and information about academics, school environment, teacher quality, and more.
To view a 2018-2019 school or district report card to the public, go to education.alaska.gov/reportcardtothepublic. Once there, you will be able to select which school or district report card to the public you wish to view. If you are unable to access the report cards to the public online, please contact your student’s school.
We know that the report card to the public is just one of many ways you will engage with us at Tustumena Elementary School. We look forward to sharing our school’s successes with you, and working together to make our school better every day. In particular, we are proud that at Tustumena Elementary School, the report card to the public shows us doing well on in academic areas leading to Tustumena Elementary School being recognized for exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years by the State of Alaska Department of Education and Early Development. The State of Alaska identifies eligible schools for the award based on their students’ performance on the Performance Evaluation for Alaska’s Schools (PEAKS) assessment in English language arts (ELA) and Mathematics.
We hope you will closely follow your student’s academic progress and work with his or her teacher(s) to help ensure academic success. Working together as a team, we can improve not only how well our students are performing individually, but how our school and district is performing as a whole. There is nothing more important to administrators and teachers at Tustumena Elementary School than ensuring that students are ready for the next step in their academic career. We look forward to partnering with you.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding our school or district report card to the public, please don’t hesitate to contact me at 260-1345.
Sincerely,
Doug Hayman
Principal
