Announcements
Lincoln Winter Music Concert
Dear Parents and Students,
Wednesday, December 4, is the K-5 grades Winter Program. The Winter Program will take place in the Grand Island Sr. High Auditorium starting at 6:00 PM.
The doors will open at 5:30 PM and students will need to be dressed up in their best attire and report no later than 5:45 PM in the following locations:
Grades K-2 will meet their teachers in the North Cafeteria
Grades 3-5 will meet their teachers in the auditorium balcony.
Please be aware if there are no teachers in the north cafeteria or balcony when you arrive, then please have your child sit with you until the teachers are there. Families are asked to sit in the lower level of the GISH Theater. The classes will all sit together with their teachers in the balcony to watch their schoolmates perform.
Please have your child use the restroom before leaving them in the cafeteria area. It may be a good idea for parents to take their child’s coat with them so it will be easier to get ready to leave after the program. The students have been working hard and the entire program will last around 60 minutes. Please honor our students by staying for the entire program you are attending so our kids have a wonderful audience experience. At the end of the program Mrs. McDonald will give the parents directions on where they can pick up their child. When leaving the program, be sure to tell your child’s teacher you are leaving with their student.
We hope this will help you plan for an entertaining evening with your family. The kids are so excited to show everyone how great they sound! I know a lot of programs are scheduled and you may have other family members involved in them. Hope you can join us!! Wishing you and yours a happy holiday season.

Second Step program
Dear Family,
Grand Island Public Schools is using the Second Step program in your child’s learning environment. The Second Step program teaches children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school be a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn.
To help our school be even more safe and supportive, we are also going to use the Second Step Child Protection Unit. In these lessons, children will learn three types of skills:
• Personal Safety. Children will learn important safety rules, such as safety with guns, sharp tools, and fire, and when riding on wheels or in cars. They will also learn ways to help them decide if something is safe or not.
• Touching Safety. Children will learn about safe, unsafe, and unwanted touches, and rules about touching private body parts. They’ll also learn to say no to unsafe or unwanted touches, and to tell a grown-up if someone breaks rules about touching private body parts.
• Assertiveness. These lessons will also give children a chance to practice asking a grown-up for help, telling a grown-up about an unsafe situation, and being assertive to get out of unsafe situations.
To keep your child safe and protected, everyone at school needs to be involved. So all our staff will get special training in how to:
• Recognize and report suspected child abuse
• Respond to and support children who have been abused or who are facing other challenges
• Use strategies that promote a safe and supportive climate for learning
If you have any questions about the Child Protection Unit or the Second Step program, please contact me. For more information on our school’s child-protection policies and procedures, you can also talk to the School Counselor or the Principal.
Go online to SecondStep.org and log in with the activation key CPUE FAMI LYGE to get more information about what your child is learning in the Second Step program. Thank you for helping us to make our school a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn.
Sincerely,
Breanna McDonald, Principal

Thank you for helping to keep our students, staff and families safe.
FREE MEALS FOR ALL STUDENTS!!!
If you come in with your student, it is not allowed for you to share their meal or take any food home. If you do, we could lose our grant for free food for everyone. Please be sure that food served to your student is only eaten by your student. Thank you.
If your student would like to bring a lunch from home, please be sure to send it with them in the morning so they have it available at their lunch time. We encourage you to pack items that do not require reheating as we will not be heating up student lunches in the microwave to allow our staff to focus on supervising and building relationships with students during lunch.
GIPS Healthy Celebrations and Snacks
Reminder: If you would like to bring a treat for your students birthday or any other special occasion, it needs to fit the district guidelines.
"Please do not bring homemade or store bought cookies or cupcakes. Snacks need to be store bought. We have children in the school who are allergic to different foods and we want to keep ALL of our kids safe! Sorry, you will be asked to take homemade items AND items that do not meet Smart Snack guidelines back home."
Check your students backpack for a note that will include any allergies at your specific grade level to be mindful of. If you have any questions, please call Mrs. McDonald in the office.
Below you will find the GIPS guidelines on Healthy Celebrations and Snacks.
