Parents,
It was great seeing so many of you for parent/teacher conferences this week. We appreciate you and all of your support as we work together to help all students achieve our school and district mission.
Some of you have emailed about not being able to access forms in our update. If you are unable to access a form, clicking on "view in browser" above the newsletter should open the newsletter in a browser window and allow you to have access to all forms and links.

Pajama Day/2nd Grade Performance
On November 21st at 6:30 p.m., our second graders will perform a musical called, "Pajama Party!" They will be singing about how bedtime can be a blast! To show support to the second graders, we are asking for everyone at Oak Brook to join in our pajama party by wearing pajamas on the day of our concert and final dress rehearsal. Thanks for participating to help cheer on our second graders!
Focus on Character
Empathy
We will focus on empathy this week. We define empathy as understanding and connecting to other people's feelings.
Taking time to talk about empathy as a family can help our kids understand this trait that isn't always present in our world today. Remember that empathy is understanding and connecting with other people’s feelings. Below are a few ways you and your family can practice talk and learn about empathy together.
- Schedule a family movie night so that you can specifically watch for feelings and emotions. Let everyone know that you’d like them to point out how the characters in the show are feeling and that you will pause periodically to discuss empathy. As emotions are identified, invite one another to empathize by sharing about a time they felt that way or imagining how they might be feeling in that moment.
- Find a time to sit in a circle together and celebrate all the ways you have seen each other practice empathy. Take turns sharing responses to the following prompts or make up your own! Remember to practice empathy as you listen to each other. What is 1 way a family member has shown you empathy lately? Share about a time you stopped to look at a situation from someone else’s point of view.
Other information from our monthly character focus may be found using the link the the newsletter below.
Dropping Items Off at Oak Brook
Just a friendly reminder...When dropping items off at school, please leave them on the table inside the front doors. Staff are monitoring the table as they walk by so no need to ring the bell. Please just fill out a sticky note (include students' name and teacher) and leave the item on the table. Thank you for your help.
