September 30th- October 4th
Message from your Principal
Hello Carver Elementary Community!
Wow! It is hard to believe that students have been in school for six weeks already and it is already October this week. We will progress monitor for Reading and Math STAR this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will also have Vision and Hearing on Monday and Tuesday this week. We are working hard to continue our routines, procedures, expectations, and academics! Thank you for your support with getting your students to school on time, supporting after school activities, reading with your student each day, and supporting academics! This can be as simple as counting, skip counting, practicing addition facts, multiplication facts, and reading every night with your student. We appreciate your support!
This is our last week with the SkyHawks and soccer. FLAG FOOTBALL and CHEER begins October 7th-October 30th. As of this morning, ALL slots are full for Flag Football and Cheer. If you student is interested, please add them to the waiting list. Volleyball registration is open and begins November 4th-December 4th.
This was our last week of Cross Country! Our students represented Carver so well this season-we had first graders in the top ten at a couple of our meets! The end of season party was cancelled because Coach was sick. More information to follow.
Tutoring began this week on Tuesdays and Thursdays for selected students and First Grade will begin this week. We thank you for supporting your child's learning.
The Purple After School Club Form was also sent home. Many students returned the form and confirmation slips for clubs will be sent home. We also have an online form to sign up below!
Lego Club is at capacity! Any new purple forms for the Lego club will be returned home. The start date on the purple paper was incorrect, the new start date is 9/30.
Students will receive a purple “Welcome! You have been selected to join the ______________ club!” if they will be attending the club. All clubs have a capacity and they cannot take more students unless the staff sponsor allows for more participants. Please note that if your child does not receive a Welcome! paper, the club has reached its capacity.

We held our First Second Cup of Coffee on Friday. Thank you to the parent that attended and we would LOVE to partner with our families and how we can support our students and making Carver Elementary the Heart of our Community! We also had our first School Accountability Committee meeting last Thursday night. We received some valuable feedback from parents! Thank you for attending and please continue to share ideas of how we can make Carver a great place to be!
We hosted our first Parent Meeting and began with some information about Carver Elementary enrollment, attendance, and academics. Please join us on Tuesday, October 10th for our next Parent Meeting at 3:00 PM in our library.
Thank you for supporting parent drop off outside our gym doors and having your student to school on time. REMINDER that school officially begins at 7:50 AM. If your student arrives after 7:55 AM they will be marked tardy. We want all of our students to eat breakfast and have a positive start to each day; please adjust your schedule accordingly. THANK YOU to all the students that arrive on time each day! The gym doors continue to open each day at 7:30 AM for a FREE, hot breakfast in the cafeteria from 7:30-7:45 AM. ALL students will enter and wait in the gym until the bell rings, every day this school year. Carver staff will provide supervision in the gym and students will be escorted to classrooms when the bell rings at 7:50 AM. Breakfast switches to a cold breakfast from 7:45-8:10 AM, that may be eaten in the classroom. The gym doors will close at 7:55 AM and students will need to be signed in at the front office where they will receive a cold breakfast and sent to class.
Dismissal is in the front of Carver Elementary at 2:50 PM each day. Students are escorted to the front of the building, walkers and parent pick up are dismissed, and car riders wait with their grade level. Please be patient as we are dismissing students to the appropriate cars.
*During inclement weather, students are dismissed from the gym.

Notes from Ms. Gio!
Buenas tardes/ Good afternoon!
For over 50 years, Hispanic Heritage Month has been celebrated in the United States from September 15 - October 15. There is a display of Spanish/ American figures by the library hallway, for students to see. ELL students have done an amazing job creating posters about their culture, thank you Ms. Escobar ELL teacher.
OCTOBER 7TH to 11th - Mrs. Gio during SEL will bring a book to read in Spanish and English.
- During this week please encourage your students to wear a traditional piece from a Spanish speaking country throughout that week.
- Mrs. Gio – Will show Hispanic Heritage Month videos during lunch time
FIVE FACTS ABOUT HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH
#1 Hispanic Heritage Month started out as Hispanic Heritage Week
Starting in 1968, President Johnson created a time to honor Hispanic heritage, but it was only a week long. Not until 1988, did President Reagan bump it up from a week to a month.
#2 It celebrates the independence of seven Hispanic countries
The reason Hispanic Heritage Month starts on September 15th is to coincide with the independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Plus, the independence of Mexico on September 16th and Chile on September 18th. That’s a lot to celebrate.
#3 There are A LOT of Hispanic people in the US
In fact, Hispanics account for the largest racial or ethnic minority group in the country. And while Spanish is the second most-spoken language in the US…
#4 There is no ONE way to be Hispanic
And that’s the beauty of Hispanic culture. There are 21 Spanish-speaking countries and territories around the world. Add to that the combination of cultures for people of mixed ancestry.
People who are both Dominican and Puerto Rican, or Colombian and Peruvian, or Spanish and Ecuadorian, or any number of combinations and American. Which means there’s A LOT of ways to be Hispanic. It means different music, slang, customs, food, and traditions for the nearly 60 million Hispanic people in the US.
#5 Hispanic Heritage month has been feature in Sesame Street !
So take advantage of Hispanic Heritage Month to share what you can about your culture or learn what you want about another Hispanic culture. We hope you’ll join us in celebrating our Hispanic and Latin cultures by joining an event in your own community!
Please let me know if you are looking for ideas to share with your kiddo.
*I encourage you to have this conversations with your kiddo, you are their first and most important teacher, modeling is very impactful especially for the little ones as they are expanding their world outside home. Please let me know if you need any resources
