Craddock's Weekly Update
For the Weeks of February 13th and 20th, 2023
Mrs. Menta's Message
Happy sunny Saturday!
We had quite an exciting week here at Craddock which began with the Book Fair, included a first grade art show and ended with a ribbon cutting celebration for our new Inchy's Bookworm Vending Machine! We are so lucky to have this wonderful addition to our school and excited to begin using it! All classes will be going on a scavenger hunt this week for their Inchy gold coin, which will be used to select one book for each classroom library. It's a great way for our students to learn how the Inchy coins work! Many thanks to our PTO, Mrs, Kudley and Mrs. Roscoe for all they did to make this a reality for Craddock! It's hard to put into words how thankful we are!
Attending the celebration were 36 students carefully selected as "Great Growers." Each teacher was asked to submit two names of students who have been working incredibly hard and growing strong as readers. We were so happy to have them all attend the celebration. Check out some pictures from the action above and below.
Next week is a shortened four day week due to a professional development day in Aurora. Most of the Craddock staff will be participating in the Dyslexia training required by the state. It's approximately 30 hours in total, so this will be our first chunk of hours. The modules are very informative. We are excited to collaborate as we continue to learn and grow in the area of reading instruction. The following Monday is then Presidents' Day and Aurora Schools will be closed to all.
Enjoy the weekend ahead. I hope it's filled with some rest and family time. We look forward to seeing the kids on Monday where we begin our "Random Acts of Kindness Spirit Week." The kids will be participating in lots of kindness-related activities all week long in addition to having a fun theme each day.
Please know this newsletter will cover the next two weeks at Craddock. You can expect the next Weekly Update to come out for the week of February 27th. Have a great weekend and please reach out with any questions, comments or concerns.

News from Our School Counselor, Mrs. Ambrosia
Hello Families! I am happy to share that all Craddock students have benefited from a review of expected behaviors within their individual classrooms. All classrooms focused on the following nine expected behaviors:
I can use walking feet.
I can use a safe body.
I am ready to learn.
I can share, take turns and wait.
I can stop, think and make a good choice.
I can listen and follow directions right away.
I can clean up.
I can be a good friend and use kind words.
I can only worry about myself (role model skills).
I will continue to support students with a positive focus on these expected behaviors!
Moving forward, we will focus on the topics of kindness, diversity and inclusion. During this month of February, our focus will be to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Week and Black History Month.
Beginning next week, we will focus on the following kind acts each day:
Monday, February 13- Tell someone, “Good job.”
Tuesday, February 14- Give a silent wave.
Wednesday, February 15- Say, “Hi!” to someone you don’t normally talk to.
Thursday, February 16- Give three students a compliment.
Classrooms will visit these topics in varying ways, but I wanted to share with you some of the activities and resources your children may be referring to at home:

K-2 Diversity & Inclusion Literature for Families
As always, please reach out with any questions! I hope you enjoy a wonderful weekend at home with your families!
