IHMS Week Recap
Thank You for Attending!
Thank you to all the families who attended Back to School Night! As an administrative team, we firmly believe that this is a true partnership between home and school. Communication is a key part of that partnership. In addition to the weekly newsletter, we will communicate through email, phone, or in person. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We are working together for all students to reach their fullest potential.
Athletics Update
Thanks for being flexible as practice times were adjusted due to the heat. Hopefully this is the last week the Kansas heat changes our practice schedules. However, we expect to deal with more hot days as we head into September. SMSD follows KSHSAA guidelines on activity modification due to heat. KSHSAA assigns color zones to different levels of activity modifications. We have been in the “black” zone during normal practice times this week, which prohibits any outdoor activities. Our football and cross country teams have made adjustments to “beat the heat” by practicing before school when it is cooler.
Competitions begin the second week of September.
Check the calendar for details.
GO KNIGHTS!
Vaccinations Records Are Due!
From the Nurse Office:
If you are unsure if your student’s records are up to date or not, please check Skyward. Tdap and Meningococcal are both required at entry to 7th grade.
If you have questions, please visit the 2024-2025 vaccination requirement page here.
Wednesday, Oct 16, 2024 is the immunization exclusion date and will result in your student being sent home.

Horizon Award
Congrats to Profe Thompson for being our building Horizon Award nominee! Thank you for all you do to support students and our community!
Xello Career Planning
Our students have been taking interest surveys and discovering their career matches in their Xello profile. This begins the building of their Individual Plan of Study (IPS). Ask them about their matches and saved careers.
Check out our Xello Parent Letter.
Student Macbooks
Macbooks have been deployed and we are almost fully functional! If you have a student with a tech issue, please first reference this FAQ document. If that does not solve the issue, please fill out the Hills Help Hub request form.
If you have not filled out your Online Verification Form through Skyward for the MacBook (both student and parent), you need to have that done by next week. We will begin taking MacBooks back from students who do not have the Online Verification Form complete through Skyward. We will be sending out email reminders to those who do not have the form complete.
Signs of Suicide- Prevention Lesson
Student mental health is important at IHMS! Our students will receive a suicide prevention Lesson in Knight Time on Wednesday, September 11th.

The IHMS School Store goes live on Tuesday, September 3rd in PBIS Rewards. Students are working diligently throughout the day to bank Shillings (our digital currency), and those can be spent in the school store or teacher stores.

Cell Phone Tips
Staff and students are working together to build positive habits to set students up for success today and at the next level. These habits include organization, promptness, study/focus skills, and plenty more. We are seeing students build and grow their skills already. For example, students are getting into the habit of going to their lockers, storing items (backpacks, cell phones, etc.) in the locker, and making it to class on time. It’s not always smooth, but it’s important for students to be in class on time ready to engage in learning. Our staff is committed to helping students grow in all of these areas. Keep up the great work, Knights!
It’s not easy, but it’s worth it!
