A note from our principal
Hello, families,
We hope you all have a wonderful and refreshing spring break. We have appreciated all the hard work the students have been putting in this semester. Both students and staff have earned their time away.
When classes resume on Monday, March 31, we'll devote a little more time to our Advisory period to allow students a few more minutes to readjust to the school environment. Parents can find the Extended Advisory schedule below.
Thank you and have a wonderful vacation!
Gabe Pagano,
Principal
Celebrating student success
Congratulations to our Science Olympiad medalists
The team brought home bronze medals in the fields of Entomology, Astronomy, Geology (Dynamic Planet), and Paleontology (Fossils).
The Science Olympiad competition hosted both public and private schools from around the state, however Cascade Middle School was the only middle school from Central Oregon to send competitors to Portland this year for this nationally recognized Science Competition.
Congratulations to them both! Well done!
New student art created for school lobby
Earlier this year, Cascade Middle School front office staff looked at the lobby of our school and decided it was missing something: Mountains.
We are after all Cascade Middle School – named after a mountain range – and our mascot is the Mountaineers. We need some mountains!
So they reached out to art teacher Shannon Carroll, who had a student in mind to create a custom mountain painting: 8th grader Emilie Frank.
Frank has been painting since she took an art class in elementary school. For the lobby project, she created a snow-capped peak surrounded by lush green forest to represent Central Oregon’s iconic vistas.
Emilie’s painting is now prominently displayed in the main office lobby. Check out her excellent work next time you stop by!
Abbey Mansfield portrayed a teenage fabric dyer.
Elisel Shchempik portrayed Cornelius, an "illuminator," or illustrator.
A trip back in time
Students in Kristin Wognild and Sarah Wilson's 7th-grade social studies classes have been studying the middle ages. As part of their studies, they have been learning about vocational guilds. On Friday, students participated in a Medieval Guild Fair, in which they learned about a specific guild and portrayed someone who worked in that vocation. The CMS Library was filled with fabric dyers, illustrators, scribes and other practitioners.
Spirit week recap
Cascade's WEB Leaders organized Spirit Week this past week. Sure, it snowed Thursday, on Summer Day 😩, but students and staff had fun anyway. Above, Spanish teacher Mark South and Humanities teacher Paul Trendler showed that they're ready for some water sports this summer as they paddled their way up the hallway. Meanwhile, on Wednesday's Pink Out day, Choir teacher Sterling Roberts and Band teacher David Rushton showed off their Cascade spirit.

Book fair coming in April
Cascade PTSO is partnering with Roundabout Books to put on a book fair in the Cascade Middle School library. Haven't heard this yet? We will need volunteers to make this run smoothly. Please review the available volunteer slots on the linked Sign-up Genius and sign up to help. You will need to have an up-to-date background check on file to participate. Reach out if you need help with this.

Order yearbooks by May 1!
It is time to purchase your child’s 2024-25 Yearbook!
The deadline to purchase is approaching! Yearbooks must be purchased no later than May 1!
Yearbooks are distributed every year in June at our annual Yearbook Distribution Party. Purchasing a Yearbook is a great opportunity for students to celebrate their year at Cascade and see photos of their classmates and teachers that will last a lifetime. This year they are $25, with an option to have your child’s name engraved on the cover for an extra $2.55.
Books may be purchased in the Main Office or online through your student's Touchbase account. When logging in to Touchbase, your username will be your student’s ID number, and the password will be your student’s last name with a capital first initial. A link to order your yearbook can be found here: https://or-bendlapine.intouchreceipting.com/.
If you miss the May 1 deadline to order, we will have a *very limited* number of books for sale -- $30 cash or check -- during the party only. These will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis and we cannot guarantee enough for everyone. Save time and money by buying in advance!
