Staff Directory on Website
Have you ever wanted to contact a staff member and wondered how you could get their contact information? It is now a whole lot easier since a directory has been added to our school website. It is a little hidden, but you can find it here:
Go to the MJ website by visiting https://mj.ccsd15.net/. Click on Our School > School Office > Contact Us tab (at the bottom), and listed under Office Staff is the Staff Directory button! It is a directory of the entire district, but the search provides a fast filter to find what you're looking for - search by school, department, job title/keyword, or first and last name. We hope this makes it easier for you to contact us and can't wait to hear from you!
Gentle Reminders
- Please be sure that if you need to drop off your student's lunch that it is at MJ prior to 10:30am. This ensures that we have enough time to get it to your student before they head to the cafeteria to eat.
- When a student is not feeling well they will be sent to the health office and our school nurse will call parents. Students should not be texting parents to be picked up when they are not feeling well.
- Smart watches should only be able to be used a timepiece while students are in class. Thank you for checking the settings on your child's device to ensure it does not cause a disruption to classroom learning.
- Our parking lot is a small, busy place at arrival and dismissal. Please do not leave your car in the pick up/drop off area, rather, park in a parking spot if you are coming into the building for any reason, including to sign a student in upon late arrival. Buses and other delivery vehicles need to be able to access this area at all times.
Recess Fun
Take a second look at these students at recess. The pictures were not taken from high above, so how is it they look like they have shrunk?? The students are actually kneeling on their shoes, not wearing them on their feet. Talk about a new perspective!
Health Office Hub
1. Dental exams for Kindergarten and 2nd grade students are due May 15th, 2025, with the exam being completed within the last 18 months. Please contact the health office with any questions or to receive a copy of the form.
2. As we enter spring and the rainy season is upon us, please consider packing an extra pair of clothes and shoes for your child! The health office is ALWAYS accepting clothes donations, we are currently in need of boy's pants (size 5/6-10/12).

MJ Library - April Highlights
Register for the 2025-2026 year!
Every student—new and returning—must register each year. We encourage families to register their child(ren) as early as possible. Learn more about the registration process and register on our website.
District 15 will be transitioning from Infinite Campus to PowerSchool in 2025-26. All families will need to create their PowerSchool account in order to register for school for next year. Thank you for your timely action as we launch this new system. We are committed to making this transition as seamless as possible.
Registering early helps us solidify staffing for our schools, allows your child(ren) to be placed on a class list, and allows your child(ren) to ride a bus to and from school. Registration MUST be completed and student fees must be paid by July 15, 2025.
In order to place all students in a classroom and on bus routes, we ask that you please do your part and register on or before July 15.
Words of Wisdom
Fifth Grade Families
Welcome Message from TJMS
Dear Future Jaguar Families,
I am thrilled to welcome you to our Thomas Jefferson Middle School community as you begin this exciting chapter in your child's education! Whether this is your first time at TJMS or you are returning, we understand that the transition to middle school can bring a mix of feelings for everyone involved.
During the week of May 5th, your 5th grade student will have the opportunity to visit Thomas Jefferson Middle School along with their classmates from elementary school. They'll tour our building and discover more about what middle school has to offer!
I would like to invite you, as incoming parents and guardians, to be a part of this transition process as well. Please join us for a brief Parent Orientation at Thomas Jefferson on Thursday, May 1, from 5:00 to 5:30 PM. At this event, we’ll share important information about middle school and outline specific expectations for 6th grade. If time permits, you'll also have the chance to enjoy a self-guided tour of our school. We kindly ask that this evening be reserved for parents and guardians only, since your child will experience a tour the next week with their elementary school.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!
Warmly,
Tamara Byrne
Principal

Bright Futures Begin with Attendance!
Did you know? Good attendance is a predictor of future employment success.
Tip: Make school attendance a priority in your household. Keep absences to 9 days or less for a brighter future!
Staff Learn At School Too
There is no student attendance this Friday, however, you may be wondering why your children have a shortened day each Friday. Staff members remain after dismissal and flip roles from being teachers to being students. This time is extremely valuable with time spent learning ways to enhance the curriculum, participating in various training sessions, exploring ways to meet student academic, behavioral, and social/emotional needs, and planning with teammates. Here is a little glimpse of recently offered learning opportunities on a Friday afternoon.
Reading Curriculum 3-5
Adult Learning Opportunities
Magnetic Reading K-2
Discussion, Movement, and Question Protocols
Sensory/Task Integration - SIP
Meeting Sensory Needs - Ged Ed
Free Developmental Screening
Please note the developmental screenings are by appointment only.

Family Resources
- Childhood play helps wire the brain's executive control center which has a critical role in regulating emotions, making plans, and solving problems. Play changes the connections within the neurons in the front part of the brain and is what prepares a young brain for life, love, and even schoolwork. Learn about how play helps to build a better brain here.
