Be Here. Be You. Belong!
Principal Message
Dear Meadow Point Families,
We hope you all had a wonderful time with your family. We are always excited to have our students back and look forward to a great two more weeks before winter break. This week we had our Voices of Color (VoC) parent meeting and had the opportunity to engage in powerful conversations around emotional intelligence and self-care. This week on Wednesday we will have a virtual PTCO meeting and we will share our Panorama results (Social Emotional survey. Students 3rd-5th grade took this survey, we will have our school psychologist Dr. Tiffany Carlson share the results. On Thursday we have our first ever Chocolate caliente y pan dulce spanish conversation, and we will have an english translator. We are looking forward to sharing space with you!
Safety: Please ensure your students are exiting and entering your vehicle on the sidewalk side at drop off/pick up. The safety of our students is our number one priority. Thank you for your cooperation with this.

Holiday Season and School Attendance: A Reminder
As the holidays approach, we know many families have exciting plans, and we want to remind
you of the importance of maintaining regular school attendance during this time. The weeks
before the break are often filled with critical lessons, assessments, and preparations for the new
term. Missing school can create gaps in learning that are difficult to catch up on. Make-up work
does not fully help students recover missed instruction, and one student’s absence impacts
classmates’ progress due to the collaborative nature of learning.
Every school day counts in helping your child grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We
encourage you to plan travel and events around the school calendar whenever possible. If you
know your child will be absent, please let us know in advance so we can support their continued
learning. If your child will be absent for an extended period of time please reach out to Principal Zuno.
Winter break: Dec. 23- Jan. 6
Thank you for helping us meet our attendance goals. Wishing you a joyful and safe holiday
season!

Social Emotional Resource
This week, we encourage you to talk to your kids about gratitude. According to dictionary.com, gratitude is “readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness”. I know you’ve probably told them a thousand times to say “thank you” and appreciate the good in life. It turns out that gratitude has positive effects on well-being, and the research backs it up!
“Research has shown that people who experience gratitude have more positive emotions, such as joy, love, and happiness; have fewer negative emotions, such as bitterness, envy, and resentment; have increased feelings of connectedness and improved relationships; experience greater satisfaction with school and improved academic achievement; and even have better physical health than people who don’t take the time to notice and appreciate the good things in their lives.” - NASP Communique, 2009
So this week, set aside 5 minutes a day to talk with your student about something you are each grateful for. It might just set everyone’s day off in a positive direction.
Parent Self-Care
Grounding is an exercise frequently used for anxiety and other emotions that might have you feeling a little detached from your body and space. You use your senses, sight in the case below, to bring you back to the present moment.
When fear (or a similarly unsettling emotion) arises:
Look around the space you are in (e.g., your home or work).
Pick five objects in your space as you look around.
Say the name of each object out loud. For example: phone, pencil, table, coffee cup, calculator.
Repeat this three to five times, deliberately repeating the names of each of the five objects while taking some deep breaths.
Scan your body. Do you feel more grounded in space and time? Does your brain feel clear? Does your body feel calm?
If you are not feeling grounded, repeat this process a few more times or try with another sense. You can also use smell, touch, or sound to help ground you. Having some strong mints, warheads, or sour patch kids on hand might be helpful, as the intense flavors can help bring you back yourself.
