Addressing Barriers to Effective Communication: Sensitivity Training
The Ocean State Center for Independent Living (OSCIL), with locations in Warwick and Pawtucket, has been operating for over 30 years providing services for people with disabilities to address goals for increased independence. The mission of OSCIL is “to enhance, through self-direction, the quality of life for persons with disability and to promote integration into the community.” OSCIL serves disabled Rhode Islanders by addressing the barriers to their independence.
Join OSCIL, Executive Director, Lorna Ricci in this inter-active session to learn how to communicate more effectively with your blind, vision impaired, deaf, hearing impaired and/or physically disabled library patrons so that they will be comfortable and confident in your ability to assist them in your library.

Adult Services Programming Favorites and Flops
Planning library programs for adults is an exciting but often unpredictable business! Join fellow adult services librarians to share some of your greatest hits and discuss what magic ingredients seem to go into your favorite, best-attended and most well-received programs. Acknowledging that we can learn as much from our failures as our successes, you are also encouraged to share a programming "flop" with the group so that we can use the collective wisdom of the group to imagine how that program might be reworked into a hit!
Please bring and be prepared to share a recent program that you felt was a great success as well a program that may have "flopped". If you would like your hit program shared on the Adult Services LibGuide, fill out the Program Model Template and email a link or attachment to nicolette.baffoni@olis.ri.gov

Technology Instruction for Everyone
Digital literacy classes, training and instruction look very different for different populations and ages, and meeting the technology needs of your entire community can be a challenge. Join fellow digital literacy instruction librarians for a sharing session to discuss the challenges you face when addressing the technology needs of different populations, strategies you have used to address these challenges successfully, and consider some inter-generational program models that might help address multiple groups at once.
Please bring and be prepared to share any programs, partnerships, services or resources related to the topic that you have used/provided at your library.

Census Solutions Workshop
This Census Solutions Workshop brings together library staff and community partners to learn more about the 2020 Census, discover how your library or organization can be involved, and most importantly, brainstorm ideas for how we can all help to ensure Rhode Island gets a complete and accurate count. In bringing together library staff and community partners, we are seeking to strengthen ties across the statewide community, and to provide an opportunity for cross-sector thinking to ensure an accurate count, especially of historically under-counted populations, . At the end of the day, you will better understand historically undercounted populations and have ideas for how to reach them, as well as how your organization can help implement these ideas at a state and local level.
This workshop is co-sponsored by the RI Office of Library & Information Services, the RI Division of Planning, and the U.S. Census Bureau.

Security Measures for Special Collections
Libraries, archives and historical societies need policies and procedures to have adequate security measures and a strategy for responding to thefts. Security arrangements may vary from one institution to another and are dependent on staffing, physical setting, and use. Join the Special Collections Roundtable for a panel discussion on security practices for reading rooms and collection storage areas.
The meeting will also include a tour and show & tell of the South Kingston Public Library's special collections.

Discuss early literacy domains, parent education, and storytime assessment tools to strengthen your preschool education strategies. Participants will learn the Project VIEWS 2 framework and planning tools to create a storytime plan they can take back to their library. Open to anyone who works in children’s services and plans storytimes.
About Supercharged Storytimes
Supercharged Storytimes is a transformative way to approach planning, executing, and reviewing storytime plans using scientific research and proven methods of success. Young Adult Roundtable: Connecting Computational Thinking and Connected Learning
We've explored Connected Learning (CL) and Computational Thinking (CT), now it's time to bring it all home and look at how the CL framework can be used to design new (or support existing) activities and services for teens.
Training Objective
- Participants scaffold knowledge they already have about Connected Learning (CL) and computational thinking (CT), and use it to recognize the ways in which CT supports CL.
Training Outcomes
Participants will:
- articulate how CL environments support youth learning of CT
- understand how to get started designing CT activities using a CT framework
This training is part of the YALSA/COSLA IMLS grant funded project "Transforming Teen Services: a Train the Trainer Approach."
