CHESS TOURNAMENT
Congratulations to the members of our Rotorua Intermediate Chess Team (Josh Stephenson, Ashmit Danney, Apirana Poihipi-Haira, Soham Singh and Michael De Lore) on attending your first tournament this year!
Terrific work earning 2nd place in the intermediate division. Tino Pai Michael De Lore on being the top overall intermediate player.
MANAAKITANGA AWARD RECIPIENTS: WEEK 5, Term 2
Annika Fairbrother (Pukaki 1)
Annika is a respectful and reliable student. She is always keen to help out around our class. Annika works collaboratively with others and encourages others to contribute or help them if they are stuck. Annika is an active member of our classroom, having many classroom responsibilities which she takes seriously.
Anthea Michael (Tunohopu 5)
Anthea shows respect for herself by always wearing the correct uniform and completing her work to a high standard. She strives to improve by setting goals and then working hard to achieve them. She is a positive role model who participates enthusiastically in all school activities.
Jamie Bennett (Te Rangiiwaho 4)
Jamie is a consistent super star. He does everything to the best of his ability, always abiding by the expectations and success criteria.
Ethan Rodgers-Mika (Nga Tama Toa)
Ethan, you are a fantastic role model for your peers, supporting your classmates with their learning. In times when they are having a tough day, your kind nature offers a helping hand for them, sharing ideas of how to make things better, even if that is just a friendly arm around a shoulder. You are helpful towards all of us Kaiako, often lending a helping hand in some way, especially Matua Craig. Thank you for being awesome, Ethan.
Kiana Henderson (Te Roro o Te Rangi 3)
Ngā Mihi nui kia koe Kiana. When you are given a responsibility you are determined to accomplish with expectation. Your Manaakitanga towards the other tamariki and Kaiako in our whanau exceeds all expectations. Ko koe tērā “he kura huna”.
Travis Horsburgh (Tunohopu 3)
Travis you have been consistently focused on your learning in Coding and are working independently towards creating an amazing game. You have taken advantage of the opportunity to use Tynker to create innovative actors with inventive programming.

Jayden Drabble (Pukaki 2)
Jayden consistently takes responsibility for his actions by being prepared for school with all his equipment daily. He is a very responsible and reliable student who carries out his class duties without being reminded. Jayden is respectful to others and is always willing to help his classmates when they are in need. He gives everything he does 100%. Nice one, Jayden!
Mere Namana (Tunohopu 1 -Hine Kaha )
Mere approaches each school day well prepared and ready to learn. She is always on task and likes to do things well. She enjoys working alongside others, but also likes to take on challenges on her own. A great role model within our class.
Ana-Maria Anderson-Edmonds (Te Rangiiwaho 1)
You consistently show respect for yourself and others - always having a positive attitude and a lookout for the well-being of those around you. You work well in a leadership role, giving your instructions clearly and leading by example. When working with others, you play your part and often go over and above by completing tasks in your own time. You are an asset to our whanau!
Tamati Fraser (Hurungaterangi 3)
What a terrific role model you are, Tamati. You are always willing to help and support others when your peers are needing some support. In our huge classroom setting, you always volunteer to give opportunities a go, and you are showing courage by sharing your ideas and thoughts in both small and large groups. This is awesome, Tamati!
Linton Whiu (Te Roro o te Rangi 4)
Consistently demonstrates Manaakitanga. Linton is always respectful towards Kaiako and his peers. He continuously exceeds the Whare expectations and always takes responsibility for his learning. Koia kei a koe Linton.
Abbagail Keogan (Pathways - Hurungaterangi 1)
Abbagail is a student with a positive attitude. She follows instructions, quietly stays on task and takes responsibility for her learning. She uses her initiative to help other students without being asked. She is respectful to everyone and an excellent role model to her peers. It is an absolute privilege to have Abbagail in Minecraft this term.

We have an awesome week planned that includes rock climbing, archery, target shooting, bush walks, orienteering, team building and confidence activities.
A typical "Kiwi Outdoors" camp with an emphasis on mountain safety and bush survival skills.
Planned and run by local teacher Todd Burton and based at Aongatete Outdoor Education Centre, this one's going to be awesome!

Jiraiya has stood out these past weeks as a student who consistently shows kindness to others, helping others to understand work and looking out for them. He has such a positive attitude towards his school work and is a great role model.
Uriyah Wharehinga (Tunohopu 1 - Hine Kaha)
Uriyah has come into our class in the later weeks of Term 1. Since her arrival she has shown respect towards her peers, teacher and always turns up to school with a positive attitude, ready to learn and try new things.
Stevie Ngamoki (Te Rangiiwaho 2)
Stevie, you show respect for others in all that you do. You are kind to everyone that you come into contact with, and always have a positive attitude. Thank you for always helping out other students and your kaiako Stevie.
Abbagail Keogan (Hurungaterangi 1)
Abbagail is being recognised for her consistent role modeling of RIS values to our Hurungaterangi whanau. She quietly does the right thing and helps others, without being asked, showing integrity. She was super disciplined during our haka waiata practises, all the while encouraging others to do the same. Abbagail will quietly share her opinions and build onto others ideas respectfully, especially during our novel study.

Harry Lane (Te Rangiiwaho 1 - Pathways / Taeotu)
Harry, you have taken ownership of your learning by working independently and solving your own problems. You work cooperatively with his peers and are always keen to help them whenever they need assistance. You are respectful and polite when engaging with students and teachers, and are an excellent role model.
