From Mr Will
Dear Community Members,
We are in the final week of Term 2 and what a term it has been, we have had so many amazing celebrations, I simply don’t have enough room in this article to mention them all. The mid-year break is a great reflective check in to look back at the last 6 months and take count of the successes and look forward to what awaits us. My 6 month reflection is filled with so many proud moments, we have something so special here at Holy Spirit.
Be The Goldfish….
I want to share one experience I had with the Year 5/6 Lightning Carnival Soccer team, Holy Spirit United last week. I was the coach and in all sports, I believe there are a few commonalities, that despite the rules, age group and sport, relate so well:
Be a Goldfish, Help and Have Fun!
I said to our kids that Goldfish are the happiest animals in the world, due to their 30 second memory. They don’t get caught up with what ifs and kick themselves when they turn the wrong direction or make a mistake. They just happily keep swimming. The goldfish philosophy applies so well to sport, and arguably to life in general. There will be times we make a mistake and we can choose to drop our heads, or we can choose to be a goldfish, learn, forget and move on.
Help each other. It seems like a simple message, but is one that in a team sport is crucial. No one can win a game by themselves; you must help each other. Helping may mean you aren’t the star or the game winner, but your contribution is what matters to the team. To help others, is to be selfless.
Finally, have Fun. It seems like the most obvious of all, but some from a very young age, forget that sport should be fun, if you lose the element of fun, sport loses its meaning.
Well, I couldn’t have been prouder of our kids. The team, supported each other, they laughed and hugged after a goal and they rotated so everyone had a fair amount of time. Finally, after a goal was scored, they called out to each other “Be a Goldfish!”
Next time you or the kids are in a stressful situation, remember to be the Goldfish, it’s the happiest animal around!
Reports
Mid-Year Reports will be available tomorrow through SEQTA. Please ensure you are able to access your child’s reports and contact Natalie Sims if you have any issues.
The Reports are a great celebration of the hard work that you children have been completing over the semester. Celebrate their achievements with them, no matter the final grade. Remember that education is all about growth, we are all on different journeys, but ultimately, we want every child to grow and develop. I have read all the reports and they show so much growth and development across the school, they were a pleasure to read. Please congratulate your child’s class teacher, I have been a part of 6 CEWA communities and I can say that our Holy Spirit reports are some of the finest I have read.
Rest
After such a busy term, please try and take some downtime over the holidays. If you are travelling, please stay safe on our roads. Footy tipping is once again proving to be a rollercoaster experience, I was down, but with some lucky wins over the weekend (equal round winner 😎) I am back to 2nd place…..let’s hope that continues.
Have a great term break and I look forward to seeing you back in Term 3.
