Sonic Squirrels take on worlds
The Glacier Peak High School (GPHS)/Snohomish High School (SHS) Sonic Squirrels recently competed in the FIRST Robotics World Championship held in Houston. They were among 600 high school teams from 16 countries. The Sonic Squirrels finished the qualification rounds with five wins and five losses. They were ranked 23rd and were selected to play in the playoffs with their alliance. The alliance finished the double elimination playoffs in match 12 with two wins and two losses. One of the event highlights was meeting FIRST Robotics founder and Segway inventor Dean Kamen, who came by the pits and met with the Sonic Squirrels and checked out their robot. The Sonic Squirrels advisors are teachers Sean Wilson (GPHS) and Matt Johnson (SHS). Congrats team on an amazing season!
DECA programs certified
Congratulations to our high school DECA teams for reaching School-Based Enterprise (SBE) Gold Certified and Re-Certified for their Snohomish High School (SHS) Panther Pause and Glacier Peak High School (GPHS) Grizzly Den student retail operations! High school DECA teachers are Jaime Dooley (GPHS), Ben Doucette (SHS), and Alicia Sents (GPHS).
For the certification process, SBE student leaders completed a written project to demonstrate how their SBE met the National Curriculum Standards and showcasing how their retail operations or food service operations school-based business adheres to select model business standards. Of the nearly 700 gold and gold re-certified submissions, every one in six submissions were from a Washington chapter!
Updated app launched for district transportation info
This spring, the Ride 360 app our district uses to provide our families with student transportation information will be migrated to a replacement app, My Ride K-12. You will need to download the new app to access updated transportation information for your child(ren).
The new app, My Ride K-12, is available to download now. Links to the new app are available below:
Usernames and passwords from Ride 360 will transition to My Ride K-12. Additionally, existing log-in information can be used to access a web version of My Ride K-12 at myridek12.tylerapp.com. Parents/guardians will need to use their student ID# and current grade level to add their student to the app.
My Ride K-12 will continue to provide secure access to student bus schedule/routing information, which can include the bus stop, route, and bus number. This is accessible on mobile devices and is confidential and secure. All app users will need to download the new app before the Ride 360 app is retired on May 1, 2024.

Based on the 1992 motion picture and inspired by a true story, Newsies is packed with non-stop thrills and a timeless message, perfect for the whole family and every audience.

Health news
7th grade Tdap booster shot requirement
All students entering 7th grade must have a Tdap shot before they can start school in September 2024.
For students in 7th grade, the Tdap vaccine must be given at or after age 10 to be accepted for school entry. If your child is in 6th grade and already received this booster, their immunizations are complete. The middle school nurse may need medical verification when this vaccine was given. If your child receives this booster over the summer, please bring the record to the nurse at registration in August 2024. It is good to keep a copy of immunizations for your records.
Please note, the Tdap shot is different from the Td shot. If your child receives the Td shot, that vaccination is not in compliance with Washington immunization requirements, and they will need to receive the Tdap shot, as well, before the first day of school.
- Please click here for additional information about state vaccine requirements.
- Please click here to access the Washington State Department of Health Personal/Religious Certificate of Exemption.
Please remember, these immunizations are not just a good idea – they are required by Washington state law for school attendance.
State immunization requirements
Make sure your child's immunizations are up to date! It is important to make sure your child goes to their regularly scheduled wellness appointments, which often include immunizations. The summer months are a great time to get your child caught up with immunization requirements before the 2024-2025 school year. Schedule your appointments early, as health care providers’ schedules quickly fill up in August and September. Make sure to turn in your updated immunization paperwork to the school health room/nurse by the first day of school on Wednesday, September 6.
This reminder is especially important if your child is transitioning to preschool, kindergarten, or 7th grade, as each of these grades has additional immunization requirements. Please click here for additional information about state vaccine requirements.
Every student enrolled/registered in school or childcare in the state of Washington must have medically verified up-to-date immunization records on file with the school in which they are enrolled/registering before the first day of school, 2023-2024. Medically verified immunization records include one or more of the following:
- A Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS) printed from the Immunization Information System (IIS)
- A physical copy of the CIS form with a healthcare provider signature
- A physical copy of the CIS form with accompanying medical immunization records from a healthcare provider verified and signed by school staff
- A CIS printed from MyIR at https://myirmobile.com/signin/.

Kindergarten and new student registration
New district students
Do you have a student entering kindergarten and you were unable to register at our annual Spring into Kindergarten event? Have you recently moved to the area? Or, do you have a child who will be new to the Snohomish School District during the 2024–2025 school year? We can’t wait for you to join us! Register today at the Snohomish School District elementary, middle, or high school your child will attend or visit www.sno.wednet.edu/register.
Transition to Kindergarten
Do you have a preschool-age child who will be eligible for kindergarten after September 2025 (Note: To enter kindergarten, a child must be 5-years-old on or before August 31)? Has it been a challenge for you to access a preschool program for your child? If so, the Snohomish School District’s Transition to Kindergarten pre-K program may be the place for your child to learn and grow! Our Transition to Kindergarten program:
- Serves 4- to 5-year-old students
- Is a state-funded, free Monday through Friday full-day preschool program
- Serves children and families who demonstrate a need through the Transition to Kindergarten pre-K application and screening process
To learn more about Transition to Kindergarten, please fill out the district Preschool Inquiry Form at www.sno.wednet.edu/preschoolform. Upon completion of the form, a district enrollment specialist will be in touch! Screenings and placements typically will occur in March, June, and August. Learn more about all of the district’s early learning programs at www.sno.wednet.edu/pre-k.
ECEAP and Developmental Preschool
In addition to Transition to Kindergarten, we offer other early learning programs including Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) and Developmental Preschool.
Snohomish School District's Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) is a state-funded, free preschool for limited-income families. ECEAP is designed to provide a comprehensive early childhood program for preschool children and their families. If your child resides within the Snohomish School District boundaries or is highly mobile, such as migrant or homeless, they may be eligible for the ECEAP program. Developmental Preschool serves 3- to 5-year-old students who meet eligibility requirements for special education services.
To learn more about ECEAP and Developmental Preschool, please fill out the district Preschool Inquiry Form at www.sno.wednet.edu/preschoolform. Learn more about all of the district’s early learning programs at www.sno.wednet.edu/earlylearningprograms.
Variances/Choice Transfers
The Snohomish School District is currently reviewing variance/Choice Transfer requests for those families interested in their child(ren) attending a school that is not their neighborhood school for the 2024-2025 school year. If a family wishes for their child(ren) to attend a Snohomish School District school that does not serve the area of his/her residence, parents/guardians must request a variance. Variances are granted for one full school year, or until the end of the current school year. Families wishing to remain at their non-residential school must remember to apply for a variance each year. For more information on variance/Choice Transfer requests, please visit www.sno.wednet.edu/variance.
