CDO's Letter Grade
As many in our community already know, Arizona released letter grades last weekend and we wanted to make sure to share the results with you.
We are incredibly proud to share with our community that CDO has earned the highest rating of an "A"!
- CDO IS THE #1 HIGH SCHOOL IN ORO VALLEY
- CDO IS #3 IN SOUTHERN ARIZONA
- CDO IS #18 IN THE STATE OF ARIZONA
Every staff member at CDO will tell you that this accomplishment comes not just from academic performance, but from our sense of community, love and passion for what we do, and dedication to always doing right by each other, and our students. All of what we do matters. And of course, we appreciate the continued faith and support that we also receive from our parents and community because without you, our students would not get the support they need outside of our campus. Thank you to every staff member, student, parent/guardian and community member that supports our vision. It takes teamwork to make the dream work!
What does an "A" actually mean?
A (excellent): Distinguished performance on the statewide assessment, significant student growth, high four-year graduation rates, students on track to proficiency; overall performance is significantly higher than state average.

💚CDO's Green Machine💚
🪅Dia de los Muertos 🪅
CDO Spanish classes' creativity was on full display in classrooms, the library, and in the Art Gallery on Nov. 1 & 4, with their projects related to "Dia de Muertos" ( Day of the Dead). The work reflected some of the traditions and artistry found within Mexico and Latin America during this holiday time to remember loved ones who have passed away. Displays included altars created by the AP and IB senior classes honoring famous people from Spanish speaking countries. Spanish II students went digital with their altars. Level I students decorated "calavera" skulls and wrote dedications. Finally, third year students took inspiration from the Giant Kite Festivals held on Nov. 2 in Guatemala and made their own kites, representing community and national organizations. Overall, the activities and presentations were impactful and enjoyed by many.
🤟ASL in Theater🎭
Our ASL year 3 & 4 combined class signed the school musical on their Friday performance. The school musical had 33 songs, and each student had on average 7 songs to interpret and memorize. This was certainly one of the hardest musicals yet for our ASL students to perform. Not only was the play's wording using old London grammar, but students had to take on the crazy characters and improv when improv was needed! All of their hard work showed throughout their performance.
Skills USA Officer Team
SkillsUSA Officer team for Construction and Architecture classes attended a Leadership Camp in Williams, AZ. Along with 500 other students from across the State of Arizona, they worked to earn their Statesman award and pin. They also attended leadership workshops throughout the 3-day event. We even had some snow!

Journal of Ecology
Our very own Ms. Caroline Pechuzal has been published in the journal of Ecology! In 2020 she was hired as a researcher by the Macrosystems Ecology Lab at UC Berkeley through an NSF RET (Research Experience for Teachers) grant. Her work involved training software programs (Convoluted Neural Networks) to extract data about the leaf vein architecture. It was more machine-based learning experience, but fascinating to get an inside view of the process. Click on the link below to read all about her research. Congratulations Ms. Pechuzal we are so proud of you.
