February Students of the Month
Senior Ellie Schmidt
- I lucked out with TAs this year. Ellie is my copy machine queen! And she can speed-grade any quiz. More importantly, her demeanor is pleasant and unassuming and very welcome in any environment. We will miss Ellie next year. (Spanjer)
Ellie asks productive and thoughtful questions. She acts as a leader amongst her peers in ensuring that her tablemates are on board with her before moving forward in problem-solving in class. (Bassell)
Ellie is a leader both in school and in sports. Her example of hard work and her encouragement of teammates made her an exceptional captain of our swim team. (Rondema)
Ellie! What luck to have had her two years in a row. Ellie is a quiet leader at each table she's been with, and she works hard in English. She is kind and calm, and I will miss her very much next year. (LK)
Ellie Schmidt shows compassion and maturity in her communication with her peers and teachers. (Binschus)
Junior Kaylee Manriquez
- Kaylee helps hold me accountable as a teacher! She is consistently ahead of US History content by doing all she can to excel in our class. Her writing is both eloquent and insightful and her affable presence is always helpful at 8:00 am on Mondays. I've loved being her teacher this year. (Spanjer)
- Kaylee works so diligently in math. She works hard to understand a problem if she doesn’t get it on the first try, and is very helpful in class with those around her. (Bassell)
- Kaylee is a gem. She works hard in class, as well as in leadership, to give her best effort for herself and our school. She has often made me think with her thoughtful contributions, and I appreciate her wit. (LK)
- Kaylee is a hard working and conscientious student. I've appreciated the relationships she's built in Homeroom and the joy she brings to our community. (Rondema)
- Kaylee has really impressed me with her work ethic in AP Spanish. She was new to me last year as a sophomore, and she is awesome! She asks good questions, studies hard and really pushes herself to acquire more Spanish. Además (furthermore ;) ), she is just a nice, pleasant person to me and her peers. Thanks, Kaylee! (Wise)
Sophomore Ellen Horton
- Ellen's passion for learning (and water polo!) are so clear in the classroom. In both homeroom and US History she shines as someone who is eager, willing to engage, and up for a challenge. (Spanjer)
Ellen is brilliant, curious, and thoughtful. I am so thankful she is part of our school community. She is as fierce in water polo as she is in robotics. This kid is going places! (Duprey)
I really appreciate Ellen's attitude and positivity. She has always been a good example in class. She is an active participant and helps others. She is willing to do anything (like, idk, speak Spanish, what?!) without concern. Thanks Ellen for your energy! (Wise)
Ellen's enthusiasm and positivity are infectious. I'm so grateful for her presence in our school community. (Rondema)
Ellen is a lovely presence in class. She puts her all into her work, is an excellent contributor to discussions, and has really grown in her written analysis. (LK)
Ellen Horton approaches class with an earnest enthusiasm for helping her peers learn the content. She participates regularly and shows a solid growth mindset. (Binschus)
Ninth Grader Kai DeBruin
- After a full year without having Kai in class, I am ready for next year! What a kind, humorous, thoughtful and insightful person they are. (Spanjer)
Kai is a dedicated and responsible student. She is always organized and staying on top of her work (even more impressive considering she is a multi-sport student-athlete!). Kai always has a good attitude in class, and often helps others. She is a positive and wonderful influence to have on campus! (Z. Young)
Kai is kind, cheerful, and hard-working. I miss having Kai in our homeroom this year! (LK)
I no longer have Kai, but I really enjoyed having Kai in class last year! She always had good vibes, worked hard, was helpful to her peers and followed along in class. I hope to have Kai again in class in the future. :) (Wise)
Kai is a pleasure to teach. Kai consistently sets a positive example and asks insightful questions. (Rondema)
