Season of Gratitude
Dear NLABC Community,
As we approach the Thanksgiving season, I want to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we’ve had getting to know each other, celebrate the accomplishments of the beginning of the school year and express my heartfelt gratitude for each of you.
I am thrilled to continue the celebration of being a National Blue Ribbon School! This prestigious award is a testament to the unwavering commitment of our students, teachers, staff, and families who work together to achieve excellence. It celebrates not just our academic accomplishments but also the strong sense of community and shared purpose that makes NLABC truly special.
This honor belongs to all of us, and I want to thank every student who strives to do their best, every teacher who goes the extra mile, and every family member who supports our vision for success. Together, we have built a place where learning thrives and values are nurtured.
As we prepare for Thanksgiving, let us carry forward this spirit of gratitude and accomplishment. It is a time to pause, appreciate the blessings in our lives, and give back to those in need. I encourage everyone to embrace opportunities for kindness, whether it’s through volunteering, donating, or simply offering a helping hand to a neighbor.
Additionally, I want to take a moment to address an important area where we need your support: ensuring a safe and efficient student drop-off and pick-up process.
- Please adhere to all posted signs and follow the designated traffic flow in the parking lot. This helps avoid congestion and ensures everyone’s safety.
- Use only the drop-off lane for unloading students. Parking or stopping in undesignated areas can create hazards for both pedestrians and drivers.
- Stay in your vehicle during drop-off and pick-up. If you need to assist your child, please park in the appropriate lot and escort them safely.
- Encourage your children to gather their belongings quickly. As soon as you enter the NLABC drop off zone, begin preparing for a quick departure.
Your cooperation in adhering to these expectations ensures a smoother and safer experience for everyone. Thank you for your attention to this matter—it truly makes a difference.
On behalf of our entire staff, I wish you and your families a joyful and peaceful Thanksgiving. Let’s continue to work together to make NLABC a place of pride and possibility for all.
With gratitude,
Dorissa Martin

Book Mark Contest
It’s time for the annual ASD Bookmark Contest! Students from all over the district create bookmarks, and winners are chosen for primary (K-2nd) and intermediate (3rd-5th) grades and middle and high school. The winning bookmarks are printed and sent to every school in ASD.
Last year, Northern Lights ABC third grader Katness Castillo won the intermediate category.
This year’s theme is “Turn a New Page @ Your Library”. To be considered for voting, bookmarks must use the theme, and the phrase “Turn a New Page @ Your Library” must be included. Winning bookmarks are always colorful and fill the entire space, so be sure to consider that when designing your bookmark. No copyright characters may be used. Students may submit as many entries as they like. Ask Mr. Pierce for blank forms.
Bookmarks are due to Mr. Pierce by Dec. 19th. NLABC teachers will vote for school winners, and school winners will advance to the district competition. District winners will be announced later in the 2nd semester. All entries become the property of ASD and may be used in other advertisements.
