August is upon us and some of our members are even back to school already! We are getting ready to kick-off the new 4-H year so please make sure to keep this newsletter handy for all of the important updates and details!

Traveling to the Tarrant County AgriLife Extension Office:
The entrance to our building is on the West side facing our surface parking lot and Burnett St., it is not on Taylor St. The surface parking lot entrance is on West 2nd Street (Parking will be validated for those participating/staying at an event. Please bring the ticket up with you and we will provide a sticker barcode that scans to get you out free of charge). You will enter the building on the 2nd floor and then take the elevators to the 5th floor where our office is located.

New 4-H Year - 4-H Online Shutdown
4-H Online will be DOWN on August 13 & 14. It will reopen on August 15.
If you are a first time Clover Kid, please wait until September 1st to enroll.
**Youth submitting entries for the State Fair and fall Majors MUST re-enroll when the system opens.

Adults and youth will need to enroll on 4HOnline and be active to be considered an official member of Texas 4-H. An active enrollment is required in order to register and participate in all 4-H meetings, activities and events. Each year on August 15th all membership in Texas 4-H goes to inactive and all youth and adult volunteers must re-enroll.
- Youth members are required to pay a $25.00 participation fee if enrolled by October 31st, and a $30.00 fee from November 1st to the completion of the 4-H year.
- Clover kids (grades K-2) are required to pay a $10.00 participation fee.
- Adults pay a $10.00 volunteer applicant fee.
There are 4HOnline family guides to assist you in navigating the system to get enrolled.
National 4-H Week Event - SAVE THE DATE!
National 4-H week is scheduled for October 6-12, 2024. What better way to kick off and celebrate by having a 4-H night with the Rattlers!
Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 28. A flyer with full details and link for discounted tickets & a special t-shirt will be released soon.
*The Ariat Texas Rattlers are the inaugural team in the PBR Team Series. Based out of Fort Worth, Texas. Although previously known as an individual sport, team bull riding is a spirited 5-on-5 battle. However, the rules remain the same - Ride for 8 seconds and post the highest score with your teammates. The Ariat Texas Rattlers are a gritty group of cowboys who never back down from a fight against some of the toughest beasts known to man.
4-H Club Officer Training - NEW DATE!
Make plans to join us on Monday, August 19th, 2024, at 6:30 p.m.! We will be holding our annual 4-H Club Officer training. New and returning officers/members are all encouraged to attend! Not currently serving as an officer? That's ok, we're here to help you learn! ALL members are welcome.
2024-25 Club Manager Training
Please be sure to join us on Thursday, August 29th for our Club Manager training. It will be held at the Extension Office & begin at 6:30 p.m. Check out the details on the flyer below!

4-H FCH & ANR Coalition Meetings
We are inviting EACH 4-H Club in Tarrant County to send a representative to participate in the 4-H FCH (Family & Community Health) and ANR (Ag & Natural Resources) Committees! These groups will identify topics/resources needed and help plan educational opportunities within these project areas. Please contact kate.marshall@ag.tamu.edu to rsvp!

Fall Validation Tag Orders
Fall Validation Tag Orders are OPEN! As well as orders of turkeys for the 2025 TCJLS show. These are hard deadlines.
Sheep/Goats/Swine
Early Tag orders – July 22 – August 31 will be $20 each
Late order Tag orders – September 1 – September 13 will be $35 each
Heifers
Early Tag orders – July 22 – August 31 will be $25 each
Late Tag orders – September 1 – September 13 will be $35 each
Turkeys
July 22 – August 23
$5/bird – must order in increments of 5 (5, 10, 15, etc.)

State Fair of Texas
Entries open August 1 – August 25
Our deadline will be August 16 by 5 p.m.
*Parents will be able to go to the online portal to enter exhibitors and then we can approve from our side. However, will need to require they bring in the completed and signed worksheets, because those are required to be sent in with the final entry submission.
Heart of Texas
Opens July 31 – Aug 25
Our deadline will be August 16, same as State Fair, by 5 p.m.
Junior Master Photographer Workshops
Below are the details for both trainings. Please note that these will not be offered at any other dates or locations during the 4-H year.
JMP Workshop I
Date: Saturday, September 21
Times: 8 AM to 4:30 PM
Fee: $50
Location: Dallas Research and Extension Center; 17360 Coit Road, Dallas, TX
Age divisions: Intermediate and Senior
Registration: Opens on 4HOnline August 30 and closes September 15
DSLR Camera Required (some will be available for loan on the day of the workshop)
Limited to the first 50 youth to register.
JMP Workshop II*
Date: Saturday, December 7
Times: 8 AM to 4:30 PM
Fee: $50
Location: Dallas Research and Extension Center; 17360 Coit Road, Dallas, TX
Age divisions: Intermediate and Senior
Registration: Opens on 4HOnline November 10 and closes December 1
*Must have attended Workshop I

During both workshops, participants will be paired with a trained Photography Ambassador who will provide educational assistance and mentoring.
**Youth must first become a certified Junior Master Photographer to be eligible to become an ambassador. In other words, the JMP program is the required training ground for future Photography Ambassadors.
Texas 4-H Rabbit Extravaganza
The Texas 4-H Rabbit Extravaganza is being held on Saturday, September 14th. If you plan to enter (registration is through 4-H online) you MUST be an active enrolled 4-H'er for the 2024-25 year. Enrollment for the new year will begin on August 15th. Please refer to this flyer (below) for the details!

Texas 4-H Foundation Sock Fundraiser
The Texas 4-H Foundation is super excited to announce that we have partnered with Bloom Socks for a Back-to-School Sock Bash Fundraiser!
- This fundraiser will run from August 5th – September 15th
- $5 from every pair of socks sold will go directly to your county!
- On the order form, each customer will select which county they are supporting
- At the end of the fundraiser, the money each county earns from their sales will be put into the respective foundation account.

Henderson County 3-D Archery Tournament
