Read Across America Week
We have a lot of fun activities planned for our students next week. Below is the schedule for your reference:
Monday – Mr. Rohn will read to each grade level outside.
Tuesday – Parents as Mystery Readers
Wednesday – Teacher Swap Day
Thursday – Read Across America – We have provided books from all 50 states for teachers to use in their classroom.
Friday – RHYME Distribution Day – Each student will be given a free book – Thank you PTCA for supporting this!
In addition to the daily activities, 5th grade students will be reading a book of their choice to a classroom of their choice. We started this activity last year and I am happy to say we had 23 more 5th graders volunteer for this. Each class in K-4 will have three different students read to their class throughout the week. There is also a STEM activity for each classroom which will be run by Rebecca Hester, K-12 Instructional Technology Coach.
Parent/Principal Coffee
Please join Mr. Rohn on Tuesday, March 5th in the conference room at NHUF Elementary School from 9:00-11:00 AM. Bring your driver's license with you when you report to the office to sign in.
District Climate and Culture Survey - WIR
Earlier this week, we shared a letter regarding our 2024 Climate and Culture Survey. Since then, we have added the survey questions to our website at www.boyertownasd.org.
The parent/guardian survey opens today and will be available for completion through Friday, March 8. While not required, we encourage you to complete a separate survey for each of your children, as your responses may vary based on your children’s individual experiences. To access your survey, please visit Family Climate and Culture Survey
Please note that your child(ren) in grades 3-12 will be completing the appropriate grade-level survey in school on Friday, March 1.
BASD will use the feedback from the survey to identify areas of strength and areas for improvement and will provide invaluable insights on how we can better meet stakeholder needs. Thank you for partnering with us to meet the needs of our learners and prepare them to succeed in a changing world!
Volunteering - Raptor Online Application
If you plan to volunteer in our school, please be sure you have completed the Raptor Online Application and upload all of your clearances into the system. This is a new procedure that the district has rolled out this summer. Once you have uploaded your clearances and have completed the application it can take up to 10 business days for district office to process your application. Below is the link for more information:

Cold Weather Guidelines
Students will be going outside for recess unless the wind chill factor is 18° Fahrenheit or below, or it is precipitating. It is most important that all students dress warmly so that they will be comfortable when they are outdoors. This includes having students bring coats, mittens and hats. Please refer to the Elementary School Handbook for additional information regarding recess.
KINDERGARTEN 2024-2025
Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year begins on Monday, January 8, 2024. Registration packets were mailed to families based on census data on Tuesday, January 2, 2024. If you did not receive a packet, the contents are available at the link included below.
Please note that Student Registration Hours are By Appointment Only. This includes having forms photocopied and in-person questions. If you are dropping off completed paperwork for submission, please use the dropbox at the front entrance to the Education Center.
Parent Drop Off Reminder
Parent drop off is from 8:25-8:45 AM. Once the bell rings at 8:45 AM, staff members must close the doors to begin teaching. If the door is closed, you must bring your child(ren) to the main office and sign your child(ren) in as being tardy. Thank you for your cooperation.
Attendance/Late to School Procedures
If your child will be absent OR late to school, please complete the electronic attendance form or email attendancenhuf@boyertownasd.org (preferably before 9:00 AM). The electronic attendance form can be found on our school's website. Students who are brought to school late will need to be accompanied by an adult and signed in at the office.

From the Nurse's Desk - March
Below you will find information regarding health room procedures. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the health room nurses at 610-473-1770.
Medication Information: If your child requires prescription or over-the-counter medication while at school, a medication authorization form must be completed by your physician. Once completed, please submit the paperwork, then contact the health room to schedule an appointment to drop off your child’s medication. Prescription medications must be in an original pharmacy labeled container. Over-the-counter medication must be in original packaging. Please refer to the BASD website for more information.
Returning Paperwork: Please return any health room forms (Physical, Dental, Medication) via email if possible. You can scan and email the original document or email a photograph from your phone to dwilson@boyertownasd.org or ekovach@boyertownasd.org
* Change of clothing: Please keep a change of clothing in your child’s backpack, regardless of their age. Clothing can become soiled due to a bathroom accident, fall outside in the mud, or because of spilling food/drink. The health room may not have appropriately sized clothing, so if your child does have an accident of any sort, a parent will be called to bring clothing in for the child.
From the Cafeteria
JOIN US FOR BREAKFAST
All students in the Boyertown Area School District have the opportunity to receive breakfast in the cafeteria each school day. There will be a continuation of the Governor's free breakfast initiative to provide breakfast to students at no charge for those schools participating the School Breakfast Program. Therefore, students will not be charged for breakfast for the 2023-2024 school year. Breakfast will be available during the following time each morning: Secondary Schools 7:15am to 7:40am, Elementary Schools 8:25am to 8:45am
Our breakfasts include a variety of healthy and tasty choices including such items as cereal, mini waffles, mini french toast, muffins, cereal bars, pop tarts, fresh fruits, 100% juices and a variety of milk. Students at the Middle School and Elementary levels are required to select an Entrée and must take at least 1 serving of Fruit or Vegetable to make a complete breakfast. A total of 3 items must be taken to make a complete meal. Milk is included as part of the meal. Senior High students are encouraged to do this as well, but are not required to purchase a complete meal. Instead, Senior High students have the option to purchase a la carte items, which are individually priced. To see a complete listing of our menu offerings, which duplicate bi-weekly throughout the year, please visit the Boyertown Area School District website , select Departments, and choose Food Services.

COMMUNITY NEWS
Feeding School Kids Campaign
The GIANT Company is excited to kick off its Feeding School Kids Campaign to support our district’s meal program. The campaign kicked off on January 1 and will run through the end of March. One hundred percent of the proceeds raised at our local GIANT store on Holly Road in Gilbertsville through ‘round up’ will benefit our school district.
‘Round up’ is Giant’s program of asking its customers if they want to round up their grocery bills for non-profit organizations. BASD has been the recipient of their winter program generosity in the past. Through their giving, we have offset the rising cost of food and provide nourishing meals to all students regardless of their ability to pay.
Along with customer generosity, The GIANT Company will match up to $100,000 of dollars raised across their stores.
Thank you for your ongoing generosity!
Community Bulletin Board
BASD is proud to host our online Community Bulletin Board. The electronic bulletin board features district and community activities, events, clubs, resources, and more. The board is updated regularly and is an excellent source of information regarding things happening throughout our community and beyond. Be sure to check it out regularly!
