Don't miss this: Students performing with the Dallas Brass
Student musicians from Brixner Junior High School, Henley Middle School, and Mazama and Henley high schools will get a chance to perform Nov. 5 with a professional musical ensemble, the Dallas Brass, on stage at the Ross Ragland Theater. Tickets for the 7 p.m. public performance are $10 for adults and $5 for students and youth, and are on sale now at the Ross Ragland ticket office. Fall athletics: State teams
We want to give a shout out to all student athletes who competed this fall. It takes dedication and effort to give it your all at practices and competitions and keep up your studies. Among our district high school teams, we have conference/league champions and several teams that qualified for state playoffs. Here’s who won what and what happens next:
CROSS COUNTRY
At the district meet Oct. 27, the 7-member varsity Henley girls cross country team qualified for the OSAA State Championships, placing 2nd in the Skyline Conference. Three boys also qualified to compete as individuals – Henley’s Sam Iverson (4th at districts) and Luke Devault (6th), and Mazama’s Bryce Worrell (3rd). Henley girls running on the state qualifying team are: Kiera Welch, Madison France, Halle Mckay, Kelsey Whitaker, Natania Marchessault, Casey Durant, and Nobalie Snow. The runners will compete on a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) course at Lane Community College in Eugene on Saturday, Nov. 5.
SOCCER
Four soccer teams qualified to compete in state playoffs – Lost River/Bonanza boys, Henley boys, Henley girls, and Mazama girls.
- Henley boys soccer: Henley boys won the 4A Skyline Conference Championship and are ranked 2nd in the state. They won their first state playoff game Nov. 1 and play in the quarterfinals on Saturday against Estacada.
- Henley girls: Henley girls finished 2nd in the Skyline Conference. They lost their first playoff game Nov. 2, ending their season.
- Mazama girls: The girls team won their play-in game, securing a spot in the state playoffs. They lost their first playoff game Nov. 2, ending their season.
- Lost River/Bonanza boys: The Lost River/Bonanza boys team, in its first year, qualified for the 3A/2A/1A division state playoffs ranked 11th out of 63 teams and an overall 10-3 win-loss record. Their season ended after they lost their first playoff game Nov. 1.
VOLLEYBALL
Three of our volleyball teams made the state playoffs -- Lost River, Mazama, and Henley. Mazama and Henley share the 4A Skyline Conference Championships, going into state playoffs ranked No. 6 (Vikings) and No. 7 (Hornets).
- Mazama and Henley both play in the OSAA state quarterfinals on Friday, Nov. 4 in Springfield. Mazama faces The Dalles and Henley will play Cascade.
- Lost River (1A) headed into playoffs ranked No. 26. They competed in and lost their first round last week, ending their season.
FOOTBALL:
Three teams are in the OSAA football state playoffs: Mazama, Henley, and Lost River.
- Mazama Football: 4A Big Sky Conference Champions. This is the ninth year in a row the Vikings have been conference champions. The team’s first round state playoff game is against Seaside at noon Saturday, Nov. 5.
- Henley Football: Second in Big Sky Conference. The team’s first round state playoff game is against Crook County at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4.
- Lost River Football: 1A Special District 1 South Conference Champions. Lost River will play in the state quarterfinals Nov. 11 or 12 at Lost River.
